    and bono's done more for this world than the entire rest of this board combined. say what you will about the man, he's putting his money and his actions where his mouth is. the band might not be as innovative as they once were, but what exactly did pearl jam's last album have that was so groundbreaking? u2 is still turning out good albums and nobody does what they do better.

    I was pretty moved by his speech. Bono has always fascinated me as an individual, since the late 80's. I think U2 has been successful at sticking to their spiritual roots without appearing hokey or preachy. I really liked his take on God in this speech. I asked the question in another thread, but why do the conservatives feel they have the corner market on God? Bono's words were much more on par with the teachings of Jesus.

    Well said, Bono. That's right up there with his Prayer Breakfast speech at the White House a couple of years ago. I'd love it if he spoke at national and international church gatherings--that'd be the kick in the pants the modern church needs.

    Oh, and for the Bono-haters? What have you done with your time and talents today? This week? This month? This year?

    I'm as cynical about the next guy, but I don't know how you can trash someone who is actually making a difference and standing up for a just cause. Yeah, I think he's a bit of an arrogant prick and although I do think they put out some great stuff and some not so great stuff, I don't question his passion.

    If you have a problem with what he is saying than that is valid argument, but as a messenger he is fantastic. It was a great speech and he is not a dumb guy who makes political statements to be "cool".

    I give kudos to anyone who is willing to put forth just causes with passion and genuity and I belive bono is no actor or bandwagon jumper.

    i think the others commented on what he said, not necessarily cause of who bono is but of what the context of his speech contained. there are a good amount of atheists on these boards. even if a regular nobody preacher, who weren't as famous had said this speech negative remarks would have been made. he literally reminded me of a preacher and it almost looked like church.

    I'm an atheist, and I was riveted. Thought it was a great message, not at all preachy.
