  • the band [U2] might not be as innovative as they once were, but what exactly did pearl jam's last album have that was so groundbreaking? u2 is still turning out good albums and nobody does what they do better.

    woah.

i guess i'm speechless, but in case anyone might get confused, that is definately a woah of disagreement.

You would actually be funny or interesting if you were halfway original.

I'm sorry... I helped turn this into an "Other Music" thread...

Lemme try bringing this back to politics...

The Pledge of Allegiance is boring.
    Unless Bono sings it.
With Tool as his backup band.

I'm as cynical about the next guy, but I don't know how you can trash someone who is actually making a difference and standing up for a just cause. Yeah, I think he's a bit of an arrogant prick and although I do think they put out some great stuff and some not so great stuff, I don't question his passion.

If you have a problem with what he is saying than that is valid argument, but as a messenger he is fantastic. It was a great speech and he is not a dumb guy who makes political statements to be "cool".

I give kudos to anyone who is willing to put forth just causes with passion and genuity and I belive bono is no actor or bandwagon jumper.

i think the others commented on what he said, not necessarily cause of who bono is but of what the context of his speech contained. there are a good amount of atheists on these boards. even if a regular nobody preacher, who weren't as famous had said this speech negative remarks would have been made. he literally reminded me of a preacher and it almost looked like church.

I'm an atheist, and I was riveted. Thought it was a great message, not at all preachy.

Many people criticize Bono because he spends lavishly and has more money than most countries. So what the man has earned every penny and he uses his fame to bring issues that most people completely ignore to light. Who cares if Bono has a private jet or if he has used said jet to fly a fucking pair of socks around the world. He has done more for good causes than all of us on this board can ever accomplish.

I don't hate Bono because he's a benefactor. I hate him because his music sucks and he got famous for producing crappy music.

"this could be the generation that ends extreme poverty."

Really, is that so much to ask of ourselves?

He wasn't grandstanding, he was asking very little, a small step, an important step.

Are you asking me to admit that I love preachings, or Bono? Sorry, it's late and I'm tired :)

I don't care who said it, the speech was great and so was his delivery. I'm an atheist but I appreciate the message and I believe that he meant every word he said. Its about time we had some articulate, coherent and passionate spokesman for issues that matter.
