today is the day!!!!

just some facts to make the day a bit easier:

EVERY VOTE COUNTS, so make sure you cast your vote!!

If you are in line (even if you are not physically inside the voting location, but just in the line to get in) when the polls close (it is 8pm in NJ and PA), YOU ARE STILL ALLOWED TO VOTE. Do not leave. Stay and cast your vote! The polling location MUST stay open until every last person who was in line at the closing time, votes!!!!

If you are wearing a candidate’s teeshirt, button or sticker – you may be asked to cover it up, so bring a jacket. Don’t leave, just cover it up!

It may begin raining on the east coast this evening, bring an umbrella.

If you are a first time voter, or a first time voter to your polling place, bring EITHER your voter registration card, OR a picture ID, OR a non picture ID (this could even be a paycheck or utility bill addressed to you at your registered address).

Please don’t let anyone discourage you to vote. If you are registered, and not in jail, you can vote!

Encourage everyone you know to vote. People die for this right in other countries. Please don’t let a little rain or a 30 minute wait keep you from casting your vote in this historic election.

Finally, if you don’t know where to vote, go here: http://www.vote411.org/pollfinder.php This link can also tell you if you are registered (the site is sponsored by the league of women voters and is non-biased!!!)

Thanks everyone!

I cant believe its not compulsory to vote. Legal age, sound mind means must vote in your countries elections.

What is the percentage of your population that doesnt vote? Any idea?

We get fined in Australia if we dont vote

I just want to ask a question of voters here. I've been voting a long, long time and don't really understand the lines I've been reading/hearing about. I've been voting absentee/by mail for years and it is very convenient and easy. Washington state is almost 100% vote by mail now. Why don't more do this?
I could google by state, but thought I'd just ask the opinions of those here. :)

i don't vote by mail cause I've never had a problem voting... the longest I've had to wait is 30 mins, and to me that's not a long time considering what I'm voting for!

    Good attitude

now THAT's an idea I like!!!

Im seriously dumbfounded that its not compulsory to vote in what meant to be the world superpower.

And tonight Im gonna read up on it. Im dying to know if there are any accurate figures as to the percentages

You and me both! I seriously get pissed when friends and/or family say they are NOT going to vote. My answer to them usually is.."then u can't complain about ANYTHING that happens in this country or that it does because U lost your chance to help determine that". It usually pisses them off and they stop talking to me:)

Fair fuckin play to ya. I would too.

Thats a great way to explain it to them.

Do people not for coz they dont care, are lazy, lack of education/knowledge???

So for all the questions Im just eager to understand the logic (or maybe lack of) peoples reasoning.

I must add that given the choice to not vote, there will always be a few who take up that offer but it should be the Government that makes it compulsory shouldnt it?!?!?!

I don't understand WHY ANYONE wouldn't vote if they can.
But the reasons give to me are.."I don't like either of them"
"I don't follow politics" or other bull shit along those lines. I just don't think people understand what really is at stake here.

Have a great day everyone! It's nice to see how you are all so committed.
  • It's also my birthday:D hope it ends well
  • Happy Birthday to you both! Hope your Election Day dreams come true.

    Get out and vote!
  • your vote won't mean shit...the "winner" has already been chosen. The "election" is just to make all the people think they actually have a say/part in who gets elected!!

you really think Bush won the popular vote in '04??

all the lemmings will be out in droves casting their meaningless vote for either unworthy candidate and in a year from now Ed will be writing songs about Obama and how we need to vote to get rid of him.

the election is controlled, the candidates are controlled and your mind has been controlled.

voting is now irrelevant thanks to Diebold, our TOTALLY corrupt system and our lying thieving so called "leaders".

so have fun partaking in the illusion today.

It's a democratic society... make the most of having you vote count.
So few people are so lucky...
It can be easy to think that they are much the same, and in some ways they are, but there are fundamental differences in their views and attitudes. In particular, on Iraq, health care, the environment, economics and foreign policy... and thats from me in Australia! Im sure you could find more differences! Do the research... and make you vote count!

the only difference is on the surface and in their meaningless empty words they utter that get left by the roadside once in office.the are controlled and run by the same people/think tanks.

my vote doesn't count because they own the voting machines as well.

"It's not who votes that counts, it's who counts the votes," Joseph Stalin

i am very well informed when it comes to politics...well beyond most of my countrymen, so i don't need to research anything.I don't expect you to know what I'm saying.you live in another country! Fuck! most of the people who do live here don't know either!!

You know what Crazy Breed, if you don't like the system and believe that the individual voter doesn't count, keep it to yourself

there's no need to come here and be negative about something that alot of American's are proud to participate in.

It's people like you that hold others back with your "nothing's ever going to change" attitude.

Obviously the world is not going to change overnight, but with attitudes like yours, it never will
Don't come closer or I'll have to go
