    Rapture - jill Sobule

What if I am wrong and what if you're right?
What if there is an intelligent design?
When the day comes and judgment begins Will I be left behind?

What if I'm right and you're not correct
And there's no hell fire when we are dead?
Regretting all the boys you could of kissed...
All for nothing, it wasn't a sin.

You were busy getting ready for the rapture!!!
For the rapture!!! For the rapture!!!
You were busy getting ready for the rapture, warning us all.

What if I've been a really nice gal, followed the golden rule but now,
because I don't believe in your best pal,
    you say I'll burn forever?

So let's say that He's real, but not like you sell...
He's more like the nice hippie in 'Godspell'.
Well, I'd think that He was swell. Would that bum you out?

You were busy getting ready for the rapture!!!
For the rapture!!! For the rapture!!!

    Not to mention, Voltaire's predictions

"Everything happens through immutable laws, ...everything is necessary... There are, some persons say, some events which are necessary and others which are not. It would be very comic that one part of the world was arranged, and the other were not; that one part of what happens had to happen and that another part of what happens did not have to happen. If one looks closely at it, one sees that the doctrine contrary to that of destiny is absurd; but there are many people destined to reason badly; others not to reason at all others to persecute those who reason." - Voltaire
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

hey, just so you know, deadnothingbetter is taken from three songs of pearl jam that have the word man in it. deadman, nothing man, and better man.... it holds no meaning other than that.

but yeah, i'm sure you're satisfied...

Nice, like a reverse of Blaise Pascal's wager.

  • i feel sorry for him too but we need him. we need more people like him to fulfill scriptures. his kind was predicted in the bible. so while i feel sorry for him; i am grateful he has proven yet another prophecy from the bible.
he is still our brother no matter how blind.

    This is kinda laughable.

Of course the writers of the bible are gonna predict there will be people who won't believe it. Then they can act like they are so on the money because the obvious happens. 'See what I tell you! Some people aren't buying this...just like we said! Can't you see how we are right and you should belive everything we say now.'
If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

that's a nice spin on it if it helps you sleep at night. but since there were many more non-believers back then; how do you justify that. i don't recall any predictions where it says people will believe; then stop.

People do many things out of fear....like following religious doctrine that doesn't make sense, contradicts itself and condemns so many.

For real? Do you have a 2,000 year old piece of paper to prove it?

There were non-believers before the believers killed them.

And there always has been more non-believers in Christianity than there has been believers.

i agree. people denounce religious doctrine out of fear too; and ignorance (i mean that both ways) and in the case of one here; a superiority complex.

That's a very good prognosis. So.. are you planning on seeing a psychiatrist? ;)

as i recall; the non-believers killed the believers soley based on their beliefs. and since the topic includes all religions; there has always been more believers in religion then non-believers.

seems pretty arrogant that you assume you're the one with the superiority complex; but then; you know yourself better than i do.

How does the topic include all religions?

Abook specifically mentioned the bible and you responded to this specific reference.

People had better not be believing in religion. They must believe in me, Jesus Christ, the only True Son of God.
