More like 90%. 80% probably couldn't find Canada on a map. I'm not bashing, it's just the sad truth. Us Americans ain't so good at geogruffy.0 -
its_ok wrote:Don't get it....why are so many people proud to have faught in a war?
the pride is not from fighting; it's doing something you believe in so strongly; you're willing to die for your beliefs. freedom is important to americans. so important that americans gave their lives and money to free europe twice in 26 years from a dictator. maybe you're proud that you sat on your hands while watching your fellow man exterminated just over your borders; but americans were proud to give their lives so europeans could again enjoy freedom.
i know people here don't believe iraqis' deserve the freedom the "white" world enjoys. but americans do. we want all people to be free and we'll help them attain freedom. war is never good; but if we took the attitude people have now; in the 1940's; where would you be now?0 -

Let's not go down the WWII route again.. there have been many threads about this and it has always turned nasty...0 -

i know. WWI and WWII freed white people and war is ok if it's benefiting white people.0 -

the russians 'freed' europe in ww2...oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

you must have different history books there.0 -

 I did say not to start on WWII.... It's not an argument you will win with against the europeans. Just do a search on the threads and read those that exist already so we don't have to go over it again.0 -

opinions are like ars*holes. everybody has one. russia was losing to the nazis until the americans put pressure on the eastern front. the russians then conquered the western front AND KEPT THOSE COUNTRIES FOR THEMSELVES. the russians didn't free europe; they took half of it. ask my remaining family in poland.
missles were found near normandy filled with nuclear waste and aimed at the uk. this would have rendered the uk unlivable for about 500 years.
WWI and WWII may be different in your eyes; but when it comes down to it; the only difference is the colour of the peoples skin.0 -

you've got your eastern and western fronts mixed up!?!?
but russia entered Berlin first and secured a surrender first.. i agree the americans were one of the key forces in WW2 but to say "so important that americans gave their lives and money to free europe twice in 26 years from a dictator. maybe you're proud that you sat on your hands while watching your fellow man exterminated just over your borders; but americans were proud to give their lives so europeans could again enjoy freedom." is just american hyperbole, pure nationalistic shite.

Dirtie_Frank wrote:My question is to all the Americans in this room, (sorry everyone you will see why). How many of you complain about the government about all of their policies, leaders, pretty much dislike the USA?
I love my country. There's no question where my love and loyalty lies.
I love my country, but despise some of the policies, actions and under-handed, dirty crap which the leaders of our country pull.
It's the great love for my country that lies at the root of my anger for these things they do.Dirtie_Frank wrote:What I am trying to get at is that even though you say its so bad here in the US you still have the ability to talk about it. If you were living in some other countries you would most likely be imprissoned for speaking agains t the leaders of your country. So before you go and say we live in this dictatorship that i here you speak of think about it.
In case you missed it, this administration has been working hard to discourage and punish those who speak out against them. Their actions speak loud and clear. They're working hard to put an end to protest, criticism and anyone who goes against their plans.Dirtie_Frank wrote:I served my country and I am damn proud to be an American. So before you go and bash it and compare the US to Nazi Germany think twice please because many men and women gave their life for the freedoms you should hold dear.
No one has disrespected and dishonored the people who fought for and/or died for our freedoms; more than our very own government. Not just this administration, but several administrations before them. Not just Republicans or Democrats, but all of them. Not only have they trampled on those very rights, but they have disrespected, discarded and abandoned so many veterns of this current war and previous wars.Dirtie_Frank wrote:I seem to remeber a time right after September 11, 2001 that we were all united and proud of who we are.
Correct. And you can thank this administration for their desperate attempts (and success) in dividing this country and drawing lines between everyone.
You can thank this administration for creating a war in a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and lying like a bunch of two-bit whores to get acceptance for the war. You can thank this administration for a war that was already in the planning long before 9/11 and their exploitation of the 9/11 attacks to 'justify" their war in Iraq.
9/11 not only should have been a time for us to unite, but it should have been a time for all Americans to put down all their partisan loyalty bullshit and ask themselves and the leaders of this country......some very probing and difficult questions. A time to demand some very difficult and realistic answers. A time to fight an extremist religious movement by not only tracking down the 9/11 attackers and financers; but by also using those extremists views and actions against them and expose them for the scum they really are. Instead, this admimistration in all it's wisdom and glory declared a " War On Terrorism" and showed the world they're behavior and actions are no better.
To love one's country does not mean to blindly support, cheer and root everything these clowns do. To love one's country means to fight for our freedoms, our integrity and respect for what we want our country to be.
If that means speaking out against our very own government, then, that's what has to be done. There's no one more dangerous than a country's own government and the corporations they are loyal to.
Loyalty to the almighty corporate profit, has proven to be just as dangerous as a group of religious extremists with a mission.
When profit takes priority over human lives, health, clean resources (air, water, soil, food) and quality of life; you bet your ass there's something to fight against!0 -

you're right; i mixed up east and west. but why keep calling on us? WWII caused thousands of american deaths and almost cost the us it's economy. and since russia did make it to berlin; then took the territory it conquered east of berlin; why did the us not only give back the land; but helped europe rebuild? if russia is your savior; why not give them the countries west of berlin? if russia had marched further west; it would have taken all of europe as it's own. europe would have traded one dictator for another.
so the uk is responsable for the most devastating weapon known today. if that makes you proud; go with it. but hitler still had working missles aimed at the uk and ready to launch. they were dirty bombs and not nuclear bombs as we know it; but the devastation would have been the same. historians agree that d-day came at the last minute. any longer; the uk wouldn't exist today.
on another note; the japanese bought dirty missles from hitler and had them poised off the coast of california. we bombed japan days before their sheduled launch.0 -
The biggest compliment you can say about democracy is freedom of speech and that will always mean people who agree and people who dont. As an outsider looking in i feel the biggest problem the US has is that it seems to try and force its type of democracy on the rest of the world, the famous Bushism - you are either for us or against us rather than give our way a go, if you dont like it fine.
Democracy is not going to come easy to parts of the world where you have your noses in at present, tribal differences were always going to lead to major problems.
Mr Bush needs to face facts that not everybody wants to be a citizen of Team USI know I was born and I know that I'll die
The in between is mine. I am mine

didn't saddam pay the families of the hijackers? didn't he also declare he would pay anyone who attacked the us? so logically speaking; isn't that financing attacks on the us?0 -

No. Saddam had nothing to do with financing the attacks. He did declare, but he was not involved in the 9/11 attacks.0 -
