Rising Sea levels threaten Indian Islands

  • the yellow fat in buffalo actually destroys the bad collesterol and opens arteries. a compound was found in the meat that kills cancer cells. in the name of more profits; producers have been grain feeding and using feedlots. any medicinal qualities are destroyed by doing this. when you feedlot animals you know they will get sick from close confinement so you must medicate them all. then there's the growth hormones for faster weight gain. if there is cures we don't know about; i want to make sure we have pure animals to find it. on the other hand; people are buying buffalo meat expecting health benefits and they're not getting what they pay for.

Yeah I'm down with that. Not to mention the stresses of confinement. I can imagine there are many farmers out there just trying to make a fast buck like everyone else.

Peoples priorities are really messed up in this regard. Food is the one of the most important daily rituals you can do for yourself.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,

They aren't getting the benefits because they're eating feedlot buffalo, i'm guessing.

You have a lab and all that? Where and how are you finding your findings?

tomorrow when i'm on the the freeway i'll set the cruise control in my suv at 80 instead of 85....omg ...the waters are receeding already....

i'll even send them a care package with some of those inflatable water wing thingies for you arms (from walmart of course)...so the kiddies don't drown...

  • why is this news to anyone? alaska has been evacuating coastal towns due to rising waters for several months. coastal towns in the northeast us have been working on an evacuation plan as the rising waters eat away the shoreline. london has determined that a sea wall around the city would be too costly and is now working on a plan to move the city inland.

I haven't read this stuff but it is probably subsidence rather than eustatic sea level.

for lack of time to go fishing for links:
first; i don't like oprah. she's a bigot. but the only show i watched in the last 20 years interviewed someone being evacuated/relocated in alaska. being a fishing town; they have plenty to eat. the relocation will cause hunger because the rising water is shallow. not deep enough for a boat as their bay is.

At least 4 million people live in the islands spread across 9,630 sq. km (3,700 sq. miles) of mangrove swamps.

well no wonder the islands are in danger of being 'drowned'. one can not live on a swamp and expect to have dry feet.

Move. That's what I'd do if where I lived was going to be underwater. There wouldn't be a single loss of life if people acted sensibly.
It is very difficult for people to just get up and move. Bangladesh for instance is one of the most vulnerable areas to climate change and sea level rise but the vast majority are incredibly poor. Its not easy to just get up and go. Many people do not have the luxury of making that decision so easily.

Then we better educate them and suppport them in their moving. It should be a national disgrace, a UN disgrace and a human disgrace to just let people die out of apathy.

I agree but it happens all the time. We need look no farther than Sudan to show that we are not interested in widespread humanitarian efforts unless there is benefits back home. How do you educate those who are illiterate, uneducated, malnourished and desperate as it is? If shit hits the fan, we may see hundreds of millions of refugees who are displaced. It will be incredibly difficult to move and accomodate all of these people who are struggling as it is. I agree with you that we should be looking at looking towards adaptation and planning, but many countries are barely able to function as they are let alone tackle such a daunting problem.

we've been trying to educate the world about global warming and it's effects for at least 10 years. sea level is now 8 inches higher and rising. every expidition comes back with the same findings. the ice is melting faster than thought earlier.
this isn't a problem for india. islands in the south pacific are going underwater. soon every country bordering oceans will be effected.

Not only it is difficult to move and accommodate all of these people, you have to consider the fact that whenever you get that many people who are malnourished in one place disease is always sure to follow.

and the toxic waste when the island is under water. remember katrina? dead bodies floating up and the sewage mixing with saltwater.
    there's a lot to consider.

in a few years when manhattan is under water; think of the toxic waste that will be entering the oceans.

I am just curious, do you really think Manhattan will be under water in a few years?
