More Proof.

Robots need to refute that link somehow... with science. I haven't seen any science to tell me the icecaps are NOT melting.

Oh they will bring up shit like sun temperature, or the temperature of one town in some location on earth, ignoring the average temperature of entire continents all together.

Go for it. Find something credible to refute it. Try. I'll send you money via Paypal if you do.

We at least contribute to global warming, if we aren't the primary cause of it.

Going green is good.

The ice age wasnt handled right either. They should have taxed everything to stop it.

Right. Where do I advocate fixing it with taxes? It fucking exists... period. How we fix it isn't the discussion here.

  • Here we go again with a debate whether its man made or not. That shit doesn't matter people.

Fact: We have pollution in our water and air that is man made.

Fact: We are running out of fossil fuels.

Fact: I paid $3.81 a gallon for gas this weekend.

Fact: That will only go up.

So why do we keep arguing about global warming. We should go Green to protect the environment, protect our wallets, and save our remaining fossil fuels for as long as possible.

The argument for not going Green is I like my SUV, and since I don't believe in Global Warming why should I participate in Green programs.

It's just really sad to me how people can be so self centered.

It doesn't matter when arguing whether or not global warming exists. I agree. We're either warming or we aren't.

I does matter when solutions to curbing or reversing global warming involve changing our behavior. If our behavior isn't the cause, changing our behavior isn't the solution. If our behavior is the cause, we can decide whether changing our behavior drastically enough to make a difference makes sense.

But it kinda matters on this one if we are wrong.

Figures you pick out the one thing in my post that has nothing to do with the topic. It also proves my point.

If we don't change our behavior it COULD lead to global warming. If we change our behavior it will clean up the air. Have you been to Los Angeles? Its disgusting and you can't say the air was like that before we overpopulated the area.

But even if you don't believe all of that my point is that gas is going up so that you can go green to save yourself money.

There is no good reason not to go green. If my uncle Jeff gave up driving his BMW into SF everyday then anyone can because this guy loves his fucking Beamer.

It depends on what we're wrong about, I suppose.

I was listening to NPR last week and they were saying that if we all completely stopped driving our cars it would result in only a single digit decrease in CO2 emmissions. If that is the case it would be wrong to create all kinds of restrictive regulations aimed at automakers and consumers and then pat ourselves on the back and stop there. If CO2 emmissions are going to occur at levels that create the problem with or without human input, it would be wrong to create economic and regulatory hardship on industries, thereby raising the cost of goods for people who already have trouble affording them those goods. If our CO2 emmissions are the cause of this climate change, and there are clear, practical and realistic ways to control them with clear and measurable results, and we don't pursue them, that would be shortsighted.

There are lots of problems associated with being wrong about this from all sorts of different angles. That's why it is probably a good idea to understand what we can and can't fix before we try. Just doing something can be as bad as just doing nothing.

I'm worried about our oceans. Most of the world's population lives within a couple hours of a coast. Water temperatures and pollution levels are rising. Reefs are dying. Overfishing is rampant. With the way the world's population is increasing, we're going to need intelligent fishing to help provide food. Talk all you want about the ice caps and the air, but if the oceans go, we're fucked. And while there may not be a consensus on actual climate change, I think the problems of the oceans have been pretty well documented.

This is sort of what I have always thought about this whole debate. It is like saying you don't need to quit smoking because some scientists say it doesn't cause cancer. Meanwhile your teeth are yellow, you smell bad, your skin looks gross and you can't walk up a flight of stairs without losing your breath. You might not be getting cancer but it is still fucking up your life. The same way air pollution and burning fossil fuels might not cause global warming but it is not like it is a good thing otherwise.

I call bullshit. The paper CLEARLY shows the globe warming. No doubt about that.

Our industrial and technological civilization depends upon abundant,

Billions of people in the less developed nations are now lifting themselves

How the fuck do they know? Who's to say an increase that alternative energy sources would destroy "prosperity".

Those last two sentences really sink home... ROFL... Pure shit.

    Antarctic shelf 'hangs by thread'

A chunk of ice the size of the Isle of Man has started to break away from Antarctica in what scientists say is further evidence of a warming climate.

yea I hear about that, this is from the yahoo article...

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080326/ap_on_sc/antarctica_collapse;_ylt=Ak4uWoVMY01BiHrzmk4GLFas0NUE

Much of the continent is not warming and some parts are even cooling, Vaughan said. However, the western peninsula, which includes the Wilkins ice shelf, juts out into the ocean and is warming. This is the part of the continent where scientists are most concern about ice-melt triggering sea level rise.

    read up dude.
