Yes it does, but so does the sentence 'if it wasn't for Irish soldiers in WWII, you'd all be speaking German now' :rolleyes: Fact is it wasn't called a WORLD WAR for nothing - every nation played their part, however big or small. It was all hands on deck, so to speak... far from this video game mentality so many of you seem to have. There is no way of telling which nation was most important in this fight.

Oh and also, one could also say 'I'm already speaking a foreign language and nobody did anything then... I may as well be speaking German. Why does it matter which foreign language I'm speaking???' :mad:

Despite the fact that they've said a FEW times 'not to put down the US part' :rolleyes: You see what you want to see. Read the first post of the thread and that's what the thread's about. I've even had Americans say to ME that I'd be speaking German if it weren't for them

despite the fact that Germany never invaded Ireland

and like I said we're already speaking a foreign language anyway... do we simply pretend we don't notice that?

Yep, whilst we know that not ALL Americans supported this stupidity... we know there were those who did. I was in New York when America started bombing Iraq and I remember being at a bar and hearing the guy beside me comment in disgust 'oh my god, is that FRENCH wine they're serving??? Yeh, but then again I've also heard that the reason so many English are 'hurt' cos the Irish don't like them so much is cos they don't actually teach THAT part of British history either :eek: . What DO they teach in your schools?

The configuration changes to set hard points for bombs on the wings and fuselage changed the flight characteristics of the craft and altered its performance envelope. and, most importantly, delayed its deployment in heavy numbers allowing allied bombing raids to lay waste over Messerschmidt and other German factories.

Agreed. It wasn't just one single factor that determined the fate of WWII.

I understand Byrnzie's point about Soviet Russia's contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany being undervalued/little known. Conversely, you cannot though dismiss the importance of US intervention.

And they been given their proper due throughout this thread. My Grandfather's unit flew out of Italy after the Nazi's were removed. He actually got to see Mussolini hanging from a lamp post.

but isn't that the same rhetoric we're using against the Americans... when some Americans say 'if it weren't for us you'd all be speaking German' and all that? That's cos they don't understand what 'WORLD war' means, potentially cos they're not taught that bit. I think countries should be taught why other nations don't like them. I believe the Germans are taught of their dirty past and rightly so, so that it doesn't happen again. Some Americans fail to realise that their nation has ever done anything wrong. Some English people are the same. It's all this video game mentality bullshit - 'we're the only superpower, we could kick your ass' and all that crap.
