The fact is that these people in power do think this way. It's disturbing, yes. I'd be happy to have that kind of thing out in the open, because glaring discrimination is a little trickier when it's covert.hippiemom wrote:So if he's speaking in his capacity as a representative of the administration and the Pentagon, he's saying that the highest levels of our government consider a significant percentage of the population to be "immoral" because of something they very likely have no more control over than they have over their skin color. Oh, I know they think this way. I was just responding to the general theme in this thread, which seems to be "Why would anyone take offense to this remark?" To me, it's glaringly obvious why some would find it offensive.angelica wrote:The fact is that these people in power do think this way. It's disturbing, yes. no, i just find him quite funny some times with the "over the top holier than thou you are all sinners if you dont get in line" approach to others...
we get along, and i respect his beliefs, but i just think it is time for the human race to make a little progress, thats all. sex is not evil, pre-marital sex is not evil. it is completely natural. i am not an adulterer. end of story.
the thing i find quite interesting about people of faith, especially christians, is that they are the first to cast the stone. they preach that non-believers are sinners that have a one way ticket to hell (short and sweet version). so i take the opportunity anytime i get to tell them they are full of shit. they usually get uppity and offended, meanwhile they tell me in the same breath i am going to hell (talk about offensive). i always find that hypocricy to be amusing.
with that said, i still like mr know1, and i respect his right to believe, as long as he respects my right to tell him he is full of shit when he calles me a sinner. fair is fair

I'm all for progress. I just don't think it's progress when we are not acting like we respect each other's views. In my interactions with know1, we've disagreed many times, but I don't recall him ever laughing at me. Maybe he is different with you. I felt he was being conscientious and well-intended in this thread for the most part.my2hands wrote:no, i just find him quite funny some times with the "over the top holier than thou you are all sinners if you dont get in line" approach to others...

And because you believe differently than know1 about premarital sex, it's hardly been determined as absolute law that your opinion connotes progress from his. This is why all opinions are equal.
I find hypocrisy to be amusing, too, especially when we take the "morally superior" role calling out someone else's "moral superiority" in the name of progress. You are right, though, calling another "full of it" is a right we should all reserve.

They can demand it, farfromglorified. Everyone knows that. To confuse that with being entitled to receive it may be a different story.farfromglorified wrote:It's right to demand action? I don't mind dancing. Dancing feels good.
