Well, you keep criticising the culture that considers a vagina a shameful thing. It sounds more like an automatic feminist response than a genuine well thought out concern to me. I'm just curious about how you think vaginas shold be treated instead.
Do you realize I am not a feminist? Anyone who pays attention to the feminist debates I partake of knows I am not a feminist.

So what's this about my theory not being well thought out?

I assume using the phrase "busted ravioli" is derogatory?

Maybe a little off topic, but definitely related. How many people in this discussion have read/heard the vagina monologues?

I love that play. I saw it a few weeks ago for the first time.

I am going to get a Vagina Warrior t-shirt. :D

Thank you, even that short excerpt answers the question directed to Angelica about "what do you want for vaginas".

It's not about public display, or even public discussion. It's more about ackowledging that vaginas exist, that they should be understood by their owners. That women can look at, touch, wash, examine and maintain them without that being a shameful or immoral act. Probably even that a husband can participate in that stuff without goign red or silent. Ackowledging that when they bleed, that they are just doing their job, and not confirming teh intrinsically sinful nature of women.
It's about women being able to say "I have a vagina" with as much or as little comfort as a man can say "I have a penis", or I have an asshole ( or I am an asshole, as teh case may be).
MOre though, for women to think positively about their own genitalia. I have always been mystified by how many girls thnik their privates are ugly. I'm thinking the vagina monologues are mostly about women casting off women's oppression of them, rather than men's oppression.
It is, after all, women who say "ladies don't do this or that", not men.

I saw it at the community college here in Henderson. The names of the monologues I remember are "My angry vagina," "My Vagina Was My Village," "The Woman Who Loved to Make Vaginas Happy," and "Because He Liked to Look At It." I forgot the names of some others, like the one about the old woman and her "cellar", the smells of womens' vaginas, what their vagina would say, what their vagina would wear, and probably a few others that I can't think of right now.

I'm not sure what your theory is. That's what I meant. You keep bemoaning the fact that a vagina is a shameful thing in our society, but I don't understand how you would have us act instead.

I guess what I mean is that I don't feel that there is any more shame or stigma attached to female bits than to male bits, and you seem to feel that there is. Maybe I just got the wrong impression from quickly skimming through the thread and noticing a few of your posts?
It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

    I keep "bemoaning".....?

If you think sexuality is openly dealt with in western culture, great. I happen to feel otherwise. And frankly, I'm not interested in answering questions about my perspective as a woman raised in this society with someone who is obviously coming at me with judgments, straw men to tear down, and using terms such as "bemoaning" out of the gate.

While we're on the topic.......I can't recall the last time any female shared with me the details of her menstuation in terms of texture/consistency/content.
Hahahaha... you beat me to it :p I can honestely say I have NEVER discussed, NOR had a friend discuss texture/consistency/content :D the idea of it is hilarious :D . It's basically like saying 'I have the flu', you don't say 'wow, I blew my nose this morning and my snot was yellow with little bits of green in it and there may have been a bit of blood too and it was really thick and lumpy' :D:D C'mon... is this what men think we talk about  No wonder they don't wanna hear the word.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
