it has nothing to do with the fact she is black...have you read the book yourself? the whole book isnt about Obama but he is a good portion of it amongst 3 other mayors/senators who she references who are paving the way for african americans in politics
its funny no one other than Obama and his supporters have used the race issue
the more i read what you supporters write just on this message board makes me despise Obama and his supporters more
the thing is, the mccain campaign doesn't NEED to "use" (aka, actually mention) the "race issue". it exists, whether we admit it or not. the fact that obama supporters are talking about it doesn't mean they're making it up, just that they're shedding light in a corner of american politics where many people prefer to live in the dark."Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Barack Obama."

Right. But, she should have informed them. You know, there's a number of people who replied on here saying something like "McCain knew, he had to have known ect". Well, why did Gwen not tell the Commision? I mean it's their job to find this stuff out.... and let's be honest, it's her job to disclose the information.
If the Commision didn't know about this, I do believe it is very possible that the McCain camp didn't know either. I'm not saying I "know" that they did or didn't know like some of you.... I'm saying I "think" it's very possible that McCain's staff did not know.
Why wouldn't she tell the Commision? She is very "with it" politically according to a number of people in this thread. So, she knows politics ect. She most likely would have known this may create a stir. Why would she not disclose the info? Seems odd to me.0 -

This is what I'm not understanding. How is it 'possible' that they didn't know? I found out by plugging her name and Obama into a Google search engine, and it's not my job to know. There are plenty of people on McCain's staff who's job it is to know. You still, to my knowledge, have not answered that question.
This is what irritates me. Their position on this issue is based on the assumption that the majority of people watching the issue will not take a minute out of their day to inform themselves and come to the same decision I did. I think that's a crappy assumption for a campaign to make about the American people.0 -

Yes, I did answer the question. Read it. I can see how they would say to themselves, she did the debate last go-around. She wasn't awful. She's respected in her field. She'll be fine... and trusted that the Commision would have vetted her properly because this type of thing would make them look bad. That's all. I can see how it would happen. You can't. Great. I don't act like I KNOW the McCain camp didn't know. You are doing doing that in the opposite manner.... you are the one saying I KNOW the McCain camp did know. I'm replying... in fact, no you do not. Sorry.0 -
It's working ... McCain and his surrogates have people talking about anything BUT the issues ...

Yep. Those who don't agree with you completely must be a troll. Come on man. Everyone who's not a staunch lefty please exit the board. This is a leftist only board.
This issue may not be important to you, but it may be to others. This is a discussion board about politics. This is certainly a political issue. So, it's 100% valid here. Don't label people something just because you don't agree with them politically.
Here's what McCain said on the issue today....

spin, spin, ... spin the palin circle ...
One thing for sure, the debate will be very interesting this evening, to say the least. Issues aside. : )
No matter who the moderator, there would/will be some sort of "spin" ... I kind of wish it was Ann Coulter moderating, the madwoman extraordinaire. Spin is gonna happen, why not go all the way! Party up! Couldn't, wouldn't happen, for numerous reasons ...
If Sarah's Katie Couric interview is a warm up, well then ... strap in.
She definitely "sucks" in interviews, and if anyone believes it is just nerves, think about the big decisions she may one day have to make. Nerves will be a handy excuse ...
Tonight will be interesting and telling."i'm a dedicated insomniac" ~ ev nyc beacon 6/220 -

don't get your hopes up ...
I'll bet she does fine ... the format (2 mins/2mins/30 secs/30 secs) doesn't give her enough time to dig too big a hole (same for Biden, honestly) ... she'll have some nice one liners (which, if there's no clapping or audience interaction, might be a lot flatter than normal) ... I'm sure something to say about Joe Biden voting for the war and Obama voting against it ...
I got a feeling it's going to be pretty underwhelming and the only things that "make news" are the things that are totally blown out of proportion (by Fox or MSNBC).
but ... again ... I admit it ... I hope she lays an egg."You're one of the few Red Sox fans I don't mind." - Newch91

It does seem a bit odd, but the commission as well as each campaign has to approve the moderator, and I do find it hard to believe that the campaigns did not do a search on each of the moderators before giving the OK. Maybe McCain himself did not know but it is a hard pill to swallow to say that no one in his campaign knew that this woman was writing a book about Obama. To add, if the McCain campaign is so truly concerned about her objectiveness as a moderator why not demand that she step down and a new moderator be selected."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

it does scare me to think she could be the vp of this country. that being said we made it through bush/quayle ..."i'm a dedicated insomniac" ~ ev nyc beacon 6/220 -

Sarah Palin must not have told the McCain camp what a complete moron she is . Thay didn't ask her. Whose fault is that? Again, the book isn't even a book about Obama specifically."When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0 -
this info on her book as been out since july you meant to tell me that the campaing mangr couldn't find this out when everyone else knew about the book ,damm desperate measures ...jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

I think that would come of making them look like they can't deal with tough situations.
Going forward, it's a win win situation for them. Ifill will be fair, but they have a built in excuse/diversion if Palin does poorly, and they can add it to the "us vs. the liberal media" rallying cry to fire up the base.My whole life

Exactly. I think the smart thing for Obama to do would be to ask her to step down and find someone else. Then Palin's excuse is gone and Obama looks like someone that wants to be fair, taking that out of McCain's pocket.
She cannot lose this debate. She can only be a victim of unfairness and the great liberal conspiracy.I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.0 -

When you put it that way, you're completely right. I don't KNOW that the McCain camp had no idea about Ifill's book coming out in January, one she's talked about for months and has been on sale on Amazon for weeks. I also don't know that Joe Biden's not really an Al Qaeda trained operative set to assasinate Obama as soon as he is elected and bring about the destruction of the United States single-handedly. But I decided that wasn't the case based upon an educated guess based on facts. And the logical educated guess based on facts here is that considering the amount of people working on McCain's staff who's job it is to vet people, and how mind-numbingly easy it was to come across this information, it's likely that they knew about it but used to it to their own political advantage. If that's the case, fine. But don't make Americans out to be stupid by saying "you didn't know at all."
I'm not saying I know. I'm saying I'm using common sense. I don't really see common sense entering into the defense of your argument.0
