First of all, referring to meat as 'flesh or muscle' just made me throw up in my mouth. There are many reason why I don't eat meat often and you just added to the list. Although I can appreciate the words you used, especially 'feed' because it points out the animalistc nature of eating meat, especially something like ribs or wings where a civilized and even proper human being can be found gnawing on animal bones.
As for saying grace.....I try to pray before meals but I often forget to. When I do, I certainly thank God and whoever prepared and/or provided the meal. And even if I'm out with people or at someone's house who doesn't pray, if I remember I'll still say a silent prayer in my head.0 -
Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub, yay God.I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.0

i agree with you alot here. I mostly thank the earth for nourishment (if i remember) and the life of any animal that i have taken for granted by not hunting it and using it myself (although foolish me, i have never hunted besides fishing). I rarley eat meat also, and to see someone feeding on ribs and especially chicken wings makes me naushis aswell.we don't want war, but we still want more?0 -

I am not very religious, obviously
Religiosity has nothing to do with belief in God or even gods... Isn't religion just a set of beliefs regarding the nature and purpose of the universe? Atheists can surely be religious for they have a set of beliefs regarding the nature and purpose of the universe, do they not?0 -

pretty kewl statment. kind of justifies my reasons for being spiritual instead of religious. then again its my spirituality that makes my religion.we don't want war, but we still want more?0 -
I've only seen it done in the houses of American families I've visited, but I've been happy to go along with the convention not just from politeness but because it added to the pleasantness of the meal. It didn't hurt me to do it, and it made the hosts happy.0

I am a vegetarian so I don't eat any meat what so ever. Also, I am not religous at all. So I don't say grace but when I am around people who are eating meat it makes me sick and I have to wonder if they even realize that it was living a while ago.Nature has it's own religion, gospel from the land...0

Does it make you sick to see a lion feed on a gazelle? I wonder if he realizes it was alive only moments ago.
I wonder if the anteater realizes what he is eating is alive.

I totally get your point. It's the cycle of life, and its human nature to eat meat. I just choose not to. Im sorry if my statement offended you in any way. I don't hate meat-eaters or anything like that... everyone I know eats meat. I just feel bad for the animal.
P.S. I also feel bad for the gazelle if its getting eaten by a lion..lol.Nature has it's own religion, gospel from the land...0 -

lol No problem. I'm actually not a big meat eater, and try to stay away from it, especially beef. I realize the health benefits to eating a plant-centred diet with very little if no meat at all. I'm very much against cruelty to animals, slaughterhouses, veal, etc.
I just find a logical problem with people who don't eat meat because it's a dead animal. If you don't want to eat veal because of the way the calf is treated, I get the point, but eating no meat because it involves killing an animal doesn't make sense to me. We eat other animals, as do other carnivores and omnivores in nature. I do think many people go overboard with the meat consumption though, and is probably a big cause of many western diseases.24 years old, mid-life crisis

I agree with this. I am against these factory farms and the cruelty they place upon the animals. I have no problem with free range meat consumption but as you said am trying to cut back as much as I can because of health reasons. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I tried that one, but it didn't get too far. We still use it when it is just the kids and I and I cook Dominos._Crazy_Mary_ wrote:Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub, yay God.Axis of justice.com0 -
I agree also. It's impossible to live without destroying life. If you don't kill those bacteria, they will kill you. It's easy to talk about live and let live until you face a cockroach infestation. Like you, I'm much more concerned with how the animals are treated while they're alive. I haven't eaten any meat in over 10 years, but if I were going to eat some it would be wild venison and not factory raised beef.Abookamongstthemany wrote:I agree with this. I was a vegetarian for twelve years, and when people used to ask me why, I often said for health reasons. Problem is, I was usually smoking a cigarette at the time.
(I havn't smoked for two whole weeks and counting. I am going to the show this weekend and it will be tough. Wish me luck.

Well, even if you were smoking, it would still be knocking out one less thing to worry about.
Btw....Good luck!
