When eating flesh or muscle do you thank god? or the animal that has been slaughtered?

You know, I don't really believe in God, but I submit there is a possiblity of his or her existence

I am not very religious, obviously

But everytime I put a tasty morsel of formerly living flesh in my mouth, taste the juice, and the fibers, and swallow it down. I thank the Lord God Almighty to the ceiling

I think it's been some 20 odd years since I've said Grace.

The last time I said Grace before I ate. My girlfriend freaked out that I forgot her name. Didn't get to eat that day. ;)

Well I don't "feed"... I "eat". Anyhoos, not really. I will if someone else there wants to but I don't do it normally. Not that I'm not thankful to have food.

Before all meals. If I'm in a home that doesn't I just silently say it in my head. If you're in my home I expect you to respect the 30 or so seconds it takes.

First of all, referring to meat as 'flesh or muscle' just made me throw up in my mouth. There are many reason why I don't eat meat often and you just added to the list. Although I can appreciate the words you used, especially 'feed' because it points out the animalistc nature of eating meat, especially something like ribs or wings where a civilized and even proper human being can be found gnawing on animal bones.

As for saying grace.....I try to pray before meals but I often forget to. When I do, I certainly thank God and whoever prepared and/or provided the meal. And even if I'm out with people or at someone's house who doesn't pray, if I remember I'll still say a silent prayer in my head.

i agree with you alot here. I mostly thank the earth for nourishment (if i remember) and the life of any animal that i have taken for granted by not hunting it and using it myself (although foolish me, i have never hunted besides fishing). I rarley eat meat also, and to see someone feeding on ribs and especially chicken wings makes me naushis aswell.

Religiosity has nothing to do with belief in God or even gods... Isn't religion just a set of beliefs regarding the nature and purpose of the universe? Atheists can surely be religious for they have a set of beliefs regarding the nature and purpose of the universe, do they not?

pretty kewl statment. kind of justifies my reasons for being spiritual instead of religious. then again its my spirituality that makes my religion.

I've only seen it done in the houses of American families I've visited, but I've been happy to go along with the convention not just from politeness but because it added to the pleasantness of the meal. It didn't hurt me to do it, and it made the hosts happy.

  • I am a vegetarian so I don't eat any meat what so ever. Also, I am not religous at all. So I don't say grace but when I am around people who are eating meat it makes me sick and I have to wonder if they even realize that it was living a while ago.
