I am a vegetarian so I don't eat any meat what so ever. Also, I am not religous at all. So I don't say grace but when I am around people who are eating meat it makes me sick and I have to wonder if they even realize that it was living a while ago.

Does it make you sick to see a lion feed on a gazelle? I wonder if he realizes it was alive only moments ago.

I wonder if the anteater realizes what he is eating is alive.

    You get my point.

I totally get your point. It's the cycle of life, and its human nature to eat meat. I just choose not to. Im sorry if my statement offended you in any way. I don't hate meat-eaters or anything like that... everyone I know eats meat. I just feel bad for the animal.

P.S. I also feel bad for the gazelle if its getting eaten by a lion..lol.

lol No problem. I'm actually not a big meat eater, and try to stay away from it, especially beef. I realize the health benefits to eating a plant-centred diet with very little if no meat at all. I'm very much against cruelty to animals, slaughterhouses, veal, etc.

I just find a logical problem with people who don't eat meat because it's a dead animal. If you don't want to eat veal because of the way the calf is treated, I get the point, but eating no meat because it involves killing an animal doesn't make sense to me. We eat other animals, as do other carnivores and omnivores in nature. I do think many people go overboard with the meat consumption though, and is probably a big cause of many western diseases.

I agree with this. I am against these factory farms and the cruelty they place upon the animals. I have no problem with free range meat consumption but as you said am trying to cut back as much as I can because of health reasons.

Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub, yay God.
I tried that one, but it didn't get too far. We still use it when it is just the kids and I and I cook Dominos.

I agree also. It's impossible to live without destroying life. If you don't kill those bacteria, they will kill you. It's easy to talk about live and let live until you face a cockroach infestation. Like you, I'm much more concerned with how the animals are treated while they're alive. I haven't eaten any meat in over 10 years, but if I were going to eat some it would be wild venison and not factory raised beef.

I was a vegetarian for twelve years, and when people used to ask me why, I often said for health reasons. Problem is, I was usually smoking a cigarette at the time. :)

(I havn't smoked for two whole weeks and counting. I am going to the show this weekend and it will be tough. Wish me luck. :) )

Well, even if you were smoking, it would still be knocking out one less thing to worry about.

    Btw....Good luck! :)

It's about thanking God for the meal you are about to eat, because many do not have that luxury. Typically one thanks Him for other things such as being with family, their health, etc.

    no.
funny too really, as i was brought up with religious parents, very active in the church, etc...and yet as a family, we never said grace. now as an adult, not being very religious really, definitely not. if i am at someone's home who does...of course i respect them and the custom, and have no problem participating, even if i feel slightly uncomfortable.

anyway...if one is 'giving thanks'..is it only when eating meat? one shouldn't be thankful, or express thanks, when they eat fruits and vegetables? :p

I had a wild venison dish for lunch today...killed in the hills of West Virginia. Tenderloin, covered with rice & chopped-up baked potatoes....yum
