Take it Jeff... that's a good bet. If you don't... i will.
$100,000.00 for $1,000.00 x 2. The bet being you will still be here and so will a 7-11 selling cigaretes.
Put me down for that... I'll risk 2K for the chance of winning 200K.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Ah, if I'm only putting 2k in right now, I'm in! I misread it. I thought he wanted me to pony up $100k and put it in an escrow account, and I'm not ready to tie up $100k for 5 years."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

Yeah.. there's no way you can turn $2,000.00 into $200,000.00 in 5 years. And the risk is what... a 42" LCD Flat Screen and DVD player?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Nice,
i'll print this thread and use it to extort half of that bet from whomever wins in 5 years, and make my way to the hills to live a swell life!

soulsinging wrote:i appreciate your concern, but i can take care of myself, thank you very much. if the economy crashes as you predict, i'll make a fortune litigating bankruptcy claims on behalf of bank of america, citibank, and jp morgan. no sucking wind here, chief.
I know quite a bit about bankruptcy and would like to join your firm. I have no law degree.
it'll be fun!0 -

Who is Charles Merrill? You find some obscure guy who has a recognizable last name (not for anything he's done), and is using that name to write a book. OK. I'm convinced. If he's dumping and putting everything into gold so should you. Good luck with that."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

Call me when gold hits $2,500. Then we can talk about actual economic problems.0 -

I think that would bring us right to 1980
I remember that the end of the world was imminent then when I was living in LA. The big earthquake was about to hit and slide us all into the ocean, (Ok, well, I was living on the inland side of the San Andreas fault, about 100 feet away so I would have been beachfront!) and the economy was going to collapse.
In 1980 gold hit $825 and there was going to be no more economy and we were going back to the stone age.
To put things into perspective, adjusted for the 160% inflation from 1980 to 2007, I think that puts 1980 gold at right around $2145 or so in today's dollars.
While I agree the economy and the financial system is headed the wrong way right now, and this country needs to learn to fit into the world economy, 5 years from now, soulsinging will be running down to the 7-11 to get some cigarettes,,, or maybe having his limo driver picking them up for him after he gets his 100 grand!
While our dollar is low, invite your overseas friends here!
Heineken Helen was at my house this summer and she bought dinner and beers because it seemed cheap to her!

Ah, a voice of reason.
The sky is most certainly not falling. It's just getting a little too close for comfort, boys and girls. Work your jobs, spend what you like, keep what you want. Allow others to do the same. Repeat the world over. Economics is not difficult.0 -
I remember in High School Econ class learning the price for an ounce of gold was $400... I thought hmm, that's the same price as a ounce of good green.0

I guess if I was REALLY the voice of reason, I'd be hoping soulsinging would have QUIT smoking by then.
Ok, 5 years from now, maybe he'll be sending the limo to pick us up and take us all out for a night on the town!
I've been around for a while, and the worst economy I can remember was 1980. I've been a home inspector for buyers for 20 some years now and this is the third pull back I've seen in the housing market. This is also the worst and slowest housing market I've seen since then. Since 1985, this is the third "bubble burst".
Right now is the best time to buy a house in a long time, and I notice the lower end first time buyer market is picking up right now, as well as the high end million plus market. For the housing market, this is where it all starts back again, as the first time buyer market gets the whole thing moving again.Be kind, man

When I was in high school, an ounce of "gold" WAS an ounce of green!
Actually was $20 then!Be kind, man
