Where were you on September 11th?

I was getting ready for a morning appointment in midtown NYC (lived on Long Island). Luckily, I was running behind, and checking the news at that time.

After the first plane hit - my folks called and said "be careful and stay away from lower manhattan". After the second plane - I called to cancel my business appointment.

Had to call a friend for updates, since I couldnt handle the imagry. After the first tower fell - I hopped in the car (about 25-30 miles east) and drove south to the beach. On the drive, looked to the right where you could usually see the towers - all I saw was a huge dust cloud.

Watched the ocean for a few minutes. Soon after - they closed the beaches for "national security". Not sure why.

That night - they had AWAX planes and military planes flying overhead - way above. The next day, an aircraft carrier was just off shore. I was not expecting to see that floating city on active-duty so close to home.

That whole week (starting a few days earlier) I was packing up my apartment to move out of state to open my business, as well as packing up the home my parents lived in for 30 years since they were moving at the same time. Very emotional week.

According to Wikipedia about my old hometown "On a per capita basis, the village of Garden City lost the largest number of people in the attacks of 9/11" but I have yet to actually find out who I know who died.
