    It's propaganda, and as snopes points out, false. It goes into detail about the thing you just mentioned. It was Congressman Keith Ellison, not Obama, who was sworn in on the Koran.

    But thanks for bringing this up for me. I understand now why you are so misguided, since the extend of your political awareness is largely information you've gathered from chain e-mails. You'll understand if no one takes you particularly seriously.

    lady, if it's a matter of whether he DID or DID NOT put his hand on the Koran to be sworn into the Senate... and if he DIDN'T, just say so! if he did, then I stand by every damn word I said. I'm used to people like you hating Christians for still standing up for morality and having standards. I'm not saying that Christians should all strictly be Republicans. that stereotype disgusts me. once again, why don't you sue me for being of the opinion that this nation has chosen the wrong man as it's president and for stating my reasons why I think so.

    Opinions that can be backed up are fine, passing off lies as reasons why he's a muslim terrorist are not. This is why people are disagreeing with you. Not because you're a christian. My mother is a baptist minister. I love her. I think you're a clown. Go figure.

    The only issue anyone here has with morality is yours, or the lack thereof, and the lack of morality on the part of those you seek to align yourself with.

    I remember back in 1997 when I saw the movie the Fifth Element in theaters, and the guy who played Debo in Friday was playing the role of the US President.

    I thought to myself that it will be at least 100 years before Americans are open-minded enough to vote a black person into office. Of course, I couldn't be more glad to be wrong about that prediction.

    And, for me, the cherry on the Sundae is the fact that he is an admitted recovering drug addict. As a youth struggling with his mixed heritage, he used cocaine and other hard drugs extensively to deal with the pain of feeling confused about his identity.

    At least that's what he said in an autobiography.

    Just before I graduated from college, I had an interview with the FBI. There were two agents interviewing me, and they both agreed that I was well qualified, and that I was exactly the type of student that the FBI was trying to recruit.

    Then they dropped the bomb. My history of substance abuse as a teenager was not something that I could ever get around.

    So, on top of the fact that I can never talk about my past to people with whom I work, I have to live with the fact that the past life that I've had absolutely nothing to do with for years prevents me from having the career that I really want.

    Obama is my vindication. He is living proof that judging people for mistakes they made before they were old enough to vote or buy alcohol is ignorant and has no basis in reasonable thinking what-so-ever.

    In fact, just for kicks I'm going to reapply and when they tell me about their drug policy, I'm going to say, "The president used to use hard drugs, and he's your boss. In fact, he's your boss's boss."

I believe we should welcome people of all kinds, but we're not going to change things around for you. and this man wants to do that. I don't walk into a Buddhist nation in Asia and get offended to hear a Buddhist prayer, for example. Obama wants to make our non-citizens a priority over our actual citizens. and really, why keep this thread going? you are getting what you voted for regardless of my disagreeing, so go have a beer and celebrate while you can. but I believe that it's just a matter of time before you regret it. if I'm wrong, then awesome.

    Not every American citizen is Christian...

    I really don't see why a candidate's religion is such a sticking point for Americans.

    It's not off the subject. It's a relevant parallel. A nation built on the principle of immigrants taking over people's land cannot talk of America as a sacred ideal without allowing newcomers the same opportunity to become part of it. As Mrs_Vedder said, if the Natives had taken your approach, there would be no America as you know it now, none of this bizarre idea of a perfect Christian ideal of a nation that you love so dearly.

    I really wish we'd elected a 72 year old cancer survivor and a person who had to be told that Africa is a continent. I would be feeling much better if that were the case.
