After the speech, Bono could not be reached for comment as he stepped into his private jet.

Didn't Bono once hire a jet to have his hat flown to him?

If this was Toby Keith many on here would applaud. However, Keith is a dumbass redneck with a fanbase to match.

Many people criticize Bono because he spends lavishly and has more money than most countries. So what the man has earned every penny and he uses his fame to bring issues that most people completely ignore to light. Who cares if Bono has a private jet or if he has used said jet to fly a fucking pair of socks around the world. He has done more for good causes than all of us on this board can ever accomplish.

Well that's up to personal taste. I personally liked U2's music a lot more prior to Zooropa but I personally wouldn't go as far as saying Bono sucks. Then again what the fuck do I know, I think Nirvana sucks and that Cobain was probably the biggest over-hyped musical artist since Elvis.

    he sucks.
  • Great speech! Thanks for posting!

He started in the business with those ideals and now has risen to the top and still speaks about those same ideals. He hasn’t disappeared to a little private island, like Mustique, where a lot of other rock stars and super rich go to live. He puts himself out there to stand for what he believes.

People put so much time bashing him for putting his ass out there on the line. If they spent that time were spent DOING something in their own neighborhood or for their cause, instead of telling ad nauseum glasses jokes, haha,, the world might be a little bit better for some people in need. He certainly doesn’t HAVE to put himself out there like that, so I have tremendous respect for him.

Whatever people say to dismiss him, he seems to sincerely care about less fortunate people.

as for Bono, I don't know what to think of him anymore. musically, I think U2's last great album was Zooropa, and I think they've had a handful of great songs since then, but in general I think they're just coasting. U2 was one of the first bands I truly loved, but their music no longer has the same passion and I think they've overhyped themselves. sometimes Bono comes across as a little too righteous. I actually saw this speech when it aired. i can't tell if it was just a great performance or a really heartfelt plea. but i hate feeling cynical, or projecting cynicism. i want to take him at his word, or at least take his words seriously. i don't believe in any god, and i appreciate it that Bono's views on the Christian God are not exactly conventional. i definately think the world would be a better place if more people were like him. the cynics are the reason i feel like his words are kinda pointless, because there doesn't seem to be any way to make the world better.

I think the belief that you can't make the world better is what holds far too many people back.
