Assuming it is BO and JC in the general election, what's the chance you won't vote out of lack of interest?

I'm still going to vote though.

I opened this thread thinking it'd be about gas prices. I really almost couldn't bring myself to purchase gas this week (even though the tank was empty) because I was revolted by the price. I really resented being in a situation where I was forced to pay that!!

This time around I'm sitting this one out.
  • Put none of the above on the ballet. A vote for no confidence.

    absolutely brilliant idea.
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

on behalf of the sane half of this population I'm begging you not to do that.

you'll feel really bad if McCain wins. you'll wonder if you couldn't have made a difference.

take 5 seconds to do the right thing.

um, unless you're voting republican than feel free to sit it out.

so what you are saying is 'vote the way i want you to or don't vote at all'?

if you're gonna vote for somebody i'd think it should be a much better reason than s/he's not someone else

You should always vote. It's funny how people who live in an actual democracy and get to make a difference take those things for granted!

Are either candidates ideal? Absolutely not.

Not voting is IMO one of the dumbest things you can possibly do. Then again I guess it give you a perfect excuse to bitch and moan. The idea that an individual not voting here and there will perhaps "say something" is saying nothing more than you being completely fucking worthless...especially on a year that 10's if not 100's of thousands more come out to vote given our current situation. Way to go! You showed them!
Is Obama perfect? Not by a long shot, but sitting at home frustrated by the daily news...and doing nothing more than logging on to a message board to vent your frustration (oh, and convincing nobody) will solve nothing. For a country that is as fucked up as ours, baby steps are better then no steps...or taking steps backwards (as we have for the last 7.5 years).
Hooray for doing nothing! Hooray for another 4 years of bitching on a Pearl Jam message board!

what baby steps will obama make???

our troops will still be in iraq in 2013
the for profit health 'care' and pharmaceutical industry will still be in control
israel will still illegally tear down and murder palestinians to build more illegal settlements
if we're lucky maybe 25% renewable energy by 2025
increased and 'modernized' military and budget
    no gay marriage

oh, i think someone mentioned maybe women's health....sorry, i don't see those as any form of steps....well maybe some real tiny insect....

No one has said any candidate is perfect nor has anyone said we thought you viewed your candidate as such. The problem with Obama for some of us is just how faaaar from perfect he really is.

Also, I have changed my mind on issues because of well explained and thought out views on this message board. I'm not so stubborn in my beliefs that I would come on to a political message board and expect people to give my views a listen and take them into consideration if I wasn't going to be doing the exact same thing for their views. There are a few posters on this board who have caught my attention, gave me a lot to think about and actually helped change my views. I appreciate having this outlet available to express and evolve my outlook on this country, the world and life in general. To me, saying that no one will change your mind here is only pointing to a closed one.

oh I'm voting, for all the other elections as well. But as far as the presidency is concerned. I'm not sure it matters that much anyway.... the president is only really a public figurehead after all.

I'll just continue being part of that 1 - 10% in the other columns

    Who forced you? ;)

As much as it pains me, and hits my pocket, we're not forced to buy gas for our cars by anyone but ourselves...I still wish it was cheaper!!!!

It's statements like this that actually make me consider voting fro him...I am a bit worried to do so, but if you don't like him, he must be ok for me. ;)

    yes, I agree. thanks.

I have been on political threads where we are all freedom of speech unless you disagree, so now I sit it out and only agree with those who have the guts to speak up.

I hope the people bitching about a lack of quality, viable candidates were even more pissed about their choices in 2004...

Can we ever talk about something new on this board?
