Banning all carry-ons is absurd. Unless the airlines can pony up better food, drinks, snacks, baby formula, diapers, wipes, and some decent form of entertainment besides the air travel shopping guides and crappy tv shows, then this isn't going to happen. Of course, if it did happen and the airlines made those provisions accessible to us, we'd pay for it out the nose, and air travel would take a "nose dive" and the air travel industry would further suffer financially.

Screw it ... if that's the way it's going to be, I won't fly. Ban all carry-ons? Are they insane? Have you ever had your luggage take a trip that you weren't on, and not get it back for three days? I have, and I don't even fly that often. I always take a change of clothes and whatever personal items I need to get me through one day in case my luggage doesn't materialize. Some people need medications, special foods, baby formula, there's a huge list. And just for simple convenience sake, who in their right mind would get on a six-hour flight without a book, a laptop, an iPod, something to keep themselves amused? The clouds are only fun to look at for a few minutes.
There are places I'd like to fly to, but if it means being treated like a common criminal and forced to spend 6-10 hours on a plane doing nothing but reading the in-flight catalog, then the hell with it.
Figures ... just when I get over my fear of flying, they make flying intolerable."Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630

it's about time! on every flight i've ever taken; i've seen several people hit in the head by someone trying to load baggage in the overhead storage. i can see a purse and maybe a purse sized soft sided bag; but not the luggage people try to carry on. i do look forward to getting hit in the head myself so i can sue the airline.0

I agree that a lot of people abuse the carry-on rule, and I don't think the airlines are that strict about making you shove your bag in that little metal guide box to make sure it fits...nor have I ever seen anyone do that themselves, probably for fear of their carry-on being too big.
Those little mini-rolling suitcases that barely fit in the overheads should be banned. Like you said though, a purse, or soft tote bag of some sort (the size of a BIG purse) should be okay.
It always pisses me right off to see some jackass trying to shove his or her bag in there and taking there sweet old time. I don't understand the problem...find your freaking seat, lift up the bin, put your bag in it and sit down! And if you are carrying on more than you should, then buy an extra seat for it!208XXX (September 2000) - 21 Pearl Jam shows, 2 Eddie Vedder shows, 1 Temple Of The Dog show

I agree. It drives me nuts that people refuse to check bags. I bring a carry on with a change of socks/underwear, a book and my IPOD. It goes below the seat in front of me. I have never used an overhead. Do things happen to checked bags sometimes? Yes. So what. I know it's a risk when I fly.
I think if it is needed for safety, they should install it, for now anyway. And when they start letting carry-ons back on--they should enforce the size/number rules and make some people check their stuff.I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.0

            Baby formula IS allowed.0

If the airlines do ban all carry on luggage, they sure better also be willing to improve the likliehood that youre checked baggage actually gets to where it was supposed to be.
Can you imagine arriving somehwere with literally nothing? Ok, meds and your wallet, but literally nothing else? No cell phone to call anyone? Yikes.
Its all a big plot for the airports to make more money on their payphones haha haha
To be honest, I think doing everything possible to prevent another attack is a good thing, within reason. But eventually, if we don't fix the root problem here (which no one seems to be willing to do at this point), there WILL be another attack at some point. IMHO0

What a complete joke. It won't last, if for no reason other than for the sake of all the shops in the airports that depend on selling items such as books, eletronics, food and drinks that people then carry onboard. And I really don't see airlines getting away with making people check their laptops- that's so stupid, it's not even remotely amusing. My Pearl Jam Photos

My guess is that TSA is banking on folks being more worried about arriving at their destination unharmed then wether or not their laptops have been tossed around the luggage bay like a ragdoll. I'm not saying its right though.
Can you imagine the costs that TSA and the airlines would incur with all of the claims resulting from checked laptops?0

The pawn shop lobby is all for this.......increased business and selection as luggage jockeys have more of our stuff to plunder if we have to check everything. I would never check any of my camera equipment, spotting scope or binoculars............I am quite sure that they would not follow me to my destination. All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. the bomb that blew up the plane over scottland in the 80's was concealled in checked baggage.....
if someone wants to get a bomb on board bad enough they will think of a way to do it.
banning carry ons, liquids and electronic equipment for more than a day or so plays into the fears the fuckheads want us to have.....and means they have won a small battle even if the plane wasnt blown up.0

i went to hawaii and my luggage went to atlanta. i got it a couple days later. no big deal. i carried on a small soft sided bag with meds and necessities and all was fine. not so for the little lady that looked 150 yrs old who was hit in the head with a hardsided suitcase. she was taken off with injuries. like i said; i'm waiting for my turn to sue.
another problem i see is fat people who can't fit down the aisle. imagine having to evacuate the plane in an emergency.0

i don't think a purse is considered luggage. at least i haven't heard that purses are banned. one needs to carry pasports and other identification too. if you need to carry a hard sided suitcase full of meds you're better off staying home.0

but hey if it´s important for the person to fly come on he or she can carry it in the plastic bag and a recept from the doc0

Pretty soon they are gonna make us come to the Airport butt-ass naked, and issue us clothes...our rights are slowly disappearing...

They allow them.ladygooddiva wrote:i just wondering what they do with people who needs to carry their medicine stuff (for example asma or diabetes )
Prescription meds with the passenger's name on it (all meds, not just insulin and such) are allowed. Put them in clear plastic bags to make things easier.
At the moment all liquids and gels (folks this includes your water, toothpaste, shampoo, perfume, lip gloss, mouthwash, contact solution, eye drops, your $6 cup of Starbucks, etc) MUST go in checked baggage and not in your carry on. That pretty much means your toiletry bag.
You check it or you lose it.

just wondering; what rights? where is it written that you have a right to carry on luggage? where is it written you have a right to fly on an airline? driving a car isn't even a right.
if you want to play in their yard you have to follow their rules. if you don't like it; take the bus.0
