    What should I get next?

After Whiskey my favorite is Scrapes at Midnight so that's my suggestion. Just get anything and everything you can!

Well, if you like Meth Blues, you should check out Here Comes That Weird Chill. It's an EP of outtakes from Bubblegum.

Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

I am going to give my wife a list of nothing but Lanegan to get me for christmas. Funny, I've owned Whiskey for 10 years now and I'm just now getting into it. Sooooo mellow, but I'm getting the hang of it. His vocal melodies are so subtle that they're easy to miss. It's once I learn the song well enough that I can sing along that I really uncover his genius.

About a hundred years ago, I think I heard it on a beat up casette tape through a real crappy, speaker-blown boom box. I wasn't very impressed but I suspect I didn't really give it much of a chance...

I'll pick up that one too.

  • Personally I love all of the Screaming Trees work, but I will admit that it took me a little while to get into their earlier stuff, mainly because the recordings were so low budget. Now though, Invisible Lantern has grown to be one of my fav Trees albums. Songs like Lines & Circles, Night Comes Creeping, and Grey Diamond Desert are golden. In fact, if Lanegan "covers" another one of his own songs again on the next Soulsavers album, I want it to be a quality recording of Grey Diamond Desert. Simply an epic, beauty of a song that really showed off his "younger" sounding vocals for the first time.

And eyedclaar, I got into Lanegan by listening to the Trees first; it took me a while to get into his solo stuff. But I agree with you; once you listen to the solo stuff a few times, learn the music and lyrics, and really 'listen' to his vocals, you finally see the passion and genius (IMO) behind his work. Discovering Lanegan's back catalouge was as great to me as discovering Soundgarden's. And that's sayin' something...
  • I think I might get Dust tomorrow. It's at the used shop for $5 or something. I've never heard a Screaming Trees album, but I love the Gutter Twins.

Dust is probably their best. There are those who will tell you that Sweet Oblivion is better, particularly those too fondly attached to a certain music scene of the early 90s in the Pacific Northwest.

    They are wrong.

You can't go wrong with early Screaming Trees stuff either but I wouldn't get all the early albums. I do however recommend their 1985-1989 anthology disc, there are some real gems on that one.
  • Dulli rocks. The Afghan Whigs were awesome.
    one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
    sweet smell that they adore
    I think I'd rather smother
    -The Replacements-
  • I love the Screaming Trees, I love most of his solo work, and I love the Gutter Twins.

Lanegan = musical genius, up to par with Pearl Jam.

i would argue that he is even MORE consistently good than PJ... not to mention the sheer volume and pace at which he works... gives his fans plenty to keep us busy

    not to knock PJ...

I always go back and forth between Lanegan's music and Pearl Jam and PJ related music. As for pure song writing ability, Lanegan tops any member of PJ but Lanegan's bands can't top PJ as a band. I really think we are lucky to have such great music, like this.

Now to listen to Saturnalia again! :D

Yes, I'm stoked to be obsessing about an artist again. My guitar player just burned me a copy of Scraps at Midnight when I was at his house last night. Don't worry, I'll buy it eventually.

Thankfully I was always on board with Soundgarden and I did listen to Lanegan just not all of it. I was familiar with the two big Trees albums, Mad Season, his work with QOTSA, etc., but I've been missing out on a ton.
