  • Sooooo glad we were able to convert a fellow board pal to a Lanegan fan. You won't regret it dude. The man really is amazing, and truly one of the hardest working men in music. The soulfulness in his voice is so authentic, it's hard to describe; you really do believe his lyrics, whether happy or sad. I used to be able to say the same for Cornell. Lanegan is my tops now, along with Eddie.

I have a request. I had some computer issues and lost about a 1/3 of my music collection. Anyway, there was an alternative version of Sleep with Me that was never released. Does anyone have a copy of this that they wouldn't mind sending to me? I would be foreever grateful!!!

If anyone is interested, I can post the unreleased Screaming Trees album from 1998. It's only 8 songs but they're all pretty good.

    um, hell yes.
  • i say start with bubblegum... his work with QOTSA is his dark side, gutter twins his folksy/dark side, soulsavers his gospel side, screaming trees his upbeat, straight rock side, and the rest of his solo stuff is pretty mellow acoustic stuff... bubblegum has a great balance and some nice cameos from friends

everything the man touches is gold! a true artist!

    the order IMO is:
    -bubblegum
    -soulsavers
    -sweet oblivion
    -adorata

    Mark Lanegan is great!
I love his music since Screaming Trees.
Screaming Trees, solo, Soulsavers, Gutter Twins etc... Everything is amazing.
Check out "I'll take care of you". It's a solo album with beautiful covers.
Let's say knowledge is a tree, yeah.
It's growing up just like me.

    in order:

    1. I'll Take Care Of You - solo album
    2. Saturnalia - Gutter Twins
    3. Sunday At Devil Dirt - with Isobel Campbell
    4. Sweet Oblivion - Screaming Trees
5 - Whiskey For The Holy Ghost - solo album

It's also worth checking out his first solo album. "The Winding Sheet" has a cover of 'Where Did You Sleep Last Night' featuring Kurt and Chris way before Nirvana did it.
    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)

Yes and that cover is kick ass. I also really dig Down in the Dark, which also have Kurt on backing vox. Freakin' great, solid album...especially for his first solo outing. The man can do no wrong......
  • all im missing from my mark collection is "ill take care of you" and his new one with isobel... didnt even realize he had a new one with isobel til reading this thread (im out of the loop)... if anyone wants to hook a poor boy up PM me :D

  • I'll Take Care of You is an excellent album; full of more obscure covers. But don't let that fool you. It was the last one of his six solo albums that I bought; since it was all covers, it didn't entise me as much. HOWEVER, once I heard the album I was pretty amazed at his take on those covers. His vocals on songs like Consider Me, On Jesus' Program, and Shiloh Town are some of his best, IMO.

Consider Me is one of my favourite Lanegan songs. And you can't call yourself a Lanegan fan until you've heard him sing Carry Home. :)

I fell apart when I saw him do Carry Home on the Isobel tour. I can't wait for the new solo album...I mean...the other stuff is great an' all but it's just been too long

What are the chances Mark and Greg play some US dates? I know they've said there will be no more dates announced but one can dream right?? I would be willing to fly anywhere in the US for a show.

My tickets arrived for the London show in January....this is gonna be good.

I really hope they play some dates in the US, they do seem a bit neglectful of the US fans. I've managed 8 shows in the last 2 years alone, I must have done something pretty good in a past life!!!!!!

I picked up Bubblegum and Soulsavers over the weekend. I also obtained a copy of Chinese Democracy. I was more emotionally moved/connected in the first minue of Soulsavers than I was on the entire new GNR. Mark is indeed the man.

Agreed. It's funny how much I love gospel music when I couldn't be more anti-religious.

Ya know I think Mark could pull it off. It doesn't matter what he does, everything he touches is timeless and classy.

Totally agree. I'm not particularly religious myself but Lanegan can sing some gospel songs, no doubt. Revival, On Jesus' Program, Peace In The Valley (Screaming Trees); it's all golden.

I would absolutely love to hear him sing Amazing Grace. I've always felt that to be a very powerful song; whether you're religious or not.

some of the soulsavers stuff borders on some slower hip hop stuff... you might be right... he would at the very least do it with full sincerity and integrity

Hold up!!! Screaming Trees covered Peace in the Valley???? How did miss that. I remember singing that song at church when I was little.
