Another great songwriter missing from most of these lists....Elvis Costello.
Elvis Costello is a brilliant lyricist....dude was really pissed off on his first handful of albums....some of the most interesting, intelligent, satirical and seething lyrics ever laid down in a studio. I love the guy. Even on his last album....Delivery Man is a great lyrical song.one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
sweet smell that they adore
I think I'd rather smother

armyreserve wrote:I totally agree with you. Paul Westerberg is one of the best lyricists I've ever heard. The Mats' were indeed a great band and the shows I got to experience live were second to none. Definitely one of the bands I still miss even today. However, I've made it a point to catch Paul Westerberg whenever he's in the Los Angeles area.
Westerberg is God.....I saw him last year in San Francisco and Denver. He's unbelievable.one foot in the door
