Google Johnny Doran, Felix Doran, Leo Rowsome and Seamus Ennis: all pipers. Also, check out some early Planxty, if you haven't already.

I have the first 2 Planxty albums. I'll check out the others.

You misunderstand me. Not "Irish people with acoustic guitars". Rather, Irish people playing traditional Irish songs or contemporary songs which borrow from that tradition.

Most of the songs posted so far have been recorded by hundreds of different musicians.

Well all you said was "irish folk music." And Damien Rice certainly qualifies. But that's cool.

I use the term folk music to refer to the traditional music of a country, not just any music made with acoustic guitars. I think that's a very modern confusion. I wouldn't, for instance, call Bob Dylan's music post-The Times They Are A-Changing folk because they are his own contemporary songs.

Then again definitions change with the times and for the sake of ease people are always going to label singer-songwriter type musicians as "folk" musicians. I should have clarified.

Thank Christ, somebody had to say it... thankyou.

  • I listen to the Wolfe Tones a good deal.

And recently downloaded several Christy Moore tunes....great stuff.

The Clancy Bros. Christmas album is probably my favorite Christmas album. I can listen to it over and over again.

Clannad? Do they count? Probably not as they aren't traditional Irish but I love their stuff.
