    more to the point, the fact this person uses such technical terms as 'screeching' and 'growling' proves they have a very limited knowledge of singing in general.
  • well, its like, I reaaaallly like his vocals on euphoria morning, and i think hes a good vocalist and all, I spose I just get tired of hearing about him sometmes

    I'm sorry. I think he sucks as a singer. Different strokes for different folks. Gimme Eddie, Layne or the guy from Seven Mary Three.
    i like his singing voice but his talking voice gets on my nerves

  • Seriously, I'm now absolutely stunned!! Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Zeppelin fan, but Cornell in his prime absolutely surpassed Plant in terms of vocal skill.

    What I don't understand is why people are so in love with his solo work...

    Soundgarden = brilliant
    TotD = almost as brilliant
    Audioslave = decent
    Euphoria Morning = average at best

    Come on, 'Can't Change Me'...? 'Wave Goodbye'...? Hey Chris, N'Sync called and they want their songs back.
    You're an idiot.

    Euphoria Morning was fucking brilliant and "Wave Goodbye" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard (add onto that "Preaching the End.." and maybe "When I'm Down").
    Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

    I like some of the stuff on Euphoria Morning.. the songs I seem to like were from his Superunknown demos.. the ones written specifically for that album I think are average..

    My favorite song he's done solo is Seasons

  • he was awesome '84-'96 - then he blew out his voice, made a slightly above-average solo album, and then chose to make horrible music with a very talentless band.

    Chris' voice may not be as strong as it once was, but have you listened to Ed on riot act? HUGE drop off. Ed doesn't have his growl anymore also. This can be attributed to his smoking and drinking (which Chris has given up).

    See I don't get a statement like that at all. Have you honestly listened to early Soundgarden or Temple of the Dog? The guy's technical ability was incredible, very few singers could ever hope to get even close to what he could do. He might be overrated as a song writer (depending on your tastes), but as a singer he deserves every bit of credit he gets. Seriously, it's like saying Aretha Franklin or Mariah Carey can't sing - you might not like the music but the technical talent is undeniable.

    i dont know what technical talent means. my gf who was a classically trained musician told me that vedder was one of the worst singers she'd ever heard and was never on key. after that comment, i decided i dont give a fuck about technical talent, it doesnt mean shit if you cant do anything with it. and i dont care how technically talented he is, his voice still sounds annoyingly awful.

    early soundgarden is no diff from classic 80s heavy metal. fast chugging riffs, high pitched speed solos, screamed vocals. it's no different. thus why i dont care for anything they did prior to superunknown. it's also why i dont much care for a lot of the first alice in chains album.
