So I was wondering, how many people on this board are into the heavier more "stoner" metal? I know that Jeff has name droped Mastodon and Stone put out the first Queens of the Stone Age album on his loosegrove record label.(Or so I have been lead to believe, correct me if I'm wrong)
I really enjoy this "genre" and would like to hear some suggestions as to what I may wanna check out. I'll list a few bands to give you a sense of what I mean.
Mastodon
Kyuss
Queens of the Stone Age
Clutch
Sassquatch
Bison B.C.
The Melvins
Kittens
KENmode
Fu Manchu
Desert Sessions
and so on
I have a feeling if anyone replys to this at all its gonna be that brat with the hard on for Coheed and Cambria.

I love the retardation of Monster Magnet, before "Powertrip" selling halfway decent changed their music. But they're very Spinal Tapish, so I don't know if that's what you're looking for.0 -
Hermano
Brant Bjork and the Bros
Unida
Slo Burn
Although I'd say a lot of those and what you listed are more stoner rock.
Personally cant stand Mastodon and wouldn't class them as the same genre as QOTSA.Can not be arsed with life no more.0 -

Mastodon is all over the place, its very sludgey, and proggy at times. I also enjoy the concept album thing they have going. As well as Josh Homme being on there track Colony of Birchmen....
But yes Hermano, and anything Brant Bjork does is gold! I love his punk rock guilt album right now!
I will check out Unida and Slo Burn for sure, I should have known that with a user like yours, you would have good taste!cook'em just to see the look on there face0 -
Monster Magnet also was good until, like you said they changed for the all mighty dollar..cook'em just to see the look on there face0

Some of us go heavier than stoner... some of us like doom baby!!Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.0 -

Abso-motherfucking-lutely. I've only heard the latest Down album but it's on heavy rotation in my player.
These genres confuse the shit outa me though... One person's stoner is another person's doom is another person's southern and so on and so on...
I'd really struggle to call Clutch 'metal' but they are good
I love Cult of Luna, Isis and Om as well... Doom? Stoner? Sludge? WGAS (Whogivesashit)?'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'
