Dave Matthews Band

TheGossman wrote:Ok, so they are one of my favorite bands, but I get more shit for liking them than PJ, but my main problem is this, they are hands down one of the most talent bands I've ever heard, Dave has a genious style of playing the guitar, I've never heard anyone play like him, so I get kinda offended when my friends say, "Dave sucks", then they go throw on a Godsmack or Linkin park CD, what I'm trying to say is, you don't have to like something to respect it, I understand people have opinions. Anyone else get crap for liking Dave Matthews Band? And if you are not a fan of the band feel free to join in too.Let's not be negative now. Thumper has spoken0

Agreed.
BTCS is a masterpiece..
Everyday is.. ehhh.. What You Are = best song on this album (would be worst song on anything pre-everyday however)

i always thought that the scariest thing in the world as a musician would be to lose 'it'. or as is says on SVT "or does 'it' go away for awhile and come back?"Let's not be negative now. Thumper has spoken0

wow. your opinion on dmb echoes mine 100%. only difference is that i've been dragged to shows by friends not my wife. either way they are great musicians who make (in my opinion) very boring music.0 -
i love DMB. i have been a fan since the beginning (grew up just outside of charlottesville). the newer stuff hasnt been that great.
i get a TON of shit from my friends for liking them. a bunch of us went to bridge last year and they sat down during dave's set. i was the only one standing. they said it made them cringe..."i can't believe you seriously liked that crap"....
i have issue with a lot of their fans. the example that sticks out was woodstock 99. for like 4 acts before DMB, these people around me were screaming at the bands on the stage- "GET OFF THE STAGE! BRING OUT DAVE!!!!!"....ugh...and then...when DMB came out, they talked to each other for the entire show. at a lot of shows i have been too, it is like they are at a frat party and DMB playing is just background music for their partying. at a show in Charlotte, NC several years ago, these guys inside the row from us left AT LEAST 3 times during Dave's set to go get beer....0 -
no one can criticize DMB in a bad way, they played in Woodstock and means excellent band0

I liked these guys a lot early on. What happened?"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

Also they started writing shitty songs.0

I think these guys are awesome.
I love seeing them at the Gorge every year and am disappointed they aren't there this year. It's such a great event.
The band has a great sound. The band is accessible. The band plays very well. The band mixes up their setlists. They've got a massive catalogue. They're not pretentious in the slightest."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

I think they are excellent and unique performers too. Maybe I just burned out on them between 95 and 02, but everything after the Lillywhite Sessions is kinda garbage. I'll give them maybe a dozen good songs post that period, but half of them weren't even recorded. This is a band that got too far in their own heads and started not being interesting because of it.Thirty Bills Unpaid said:I think these guys are awesome.

As far as post Lillywhtite DMB is concerned: I really enjoy Big Whiskey and the Little Red Bird e.p. Away from the World didn't really grab me as much, but it was alright. Everyday- To me, was Daves 1st solo record. I don't own it. The Folsom Field show is great, though and has a lot of the Everyday material. Stand Up had some good songs on it, but no real flow as an album to me. Joyride was on a special edition somewhere and that's one of my favorites.
Everything up to and including, the Lillywhite Sessions, is damn near perfect. Busted Stuff is okay and I mainly listen to it for the 2 songs written and recorded for it. I doubt I'll ever go see them live again, unfortunately. Every show I've went to there has been at least 1 drunken idiot that wants to fight."It's best to live in grace before you're forced to." It was shitty without DMB. I love going to the Gorge the last weekend of summer and watching them.
I can't really complain though: RHCP, U2, Tool in the bag. Tom Petty, GnR, and Metallica to come."My brain's a good brain!"0
