when was the last time pete yorn was on mtv? if you've not heard his live album, you have no basis for speaking ill of him.

and is rookie supposed to be some sort of insult?

    Meh....meh i say.

  • I can't believe I'm defending the Doors with a Pete Yorn fan. I should have known!
im not saying that pete yorn is genre bending or incredibly innovative by any stretch of the imagination... but he does make good music that i enjoy for what it is... and the context to me mentioning pete in that other thread was that "musicforthemorningafter" is a good fall album... and if youve listened to it in the fall then you would understand... like someone already said, he puts on a good live show too

i think id be able to enjoy the doors music moreso for what it is if it werent for the exaggerated mysticism that surround jim morrison... big fuckin deal... lizardking  ... as an art history student ive learned to look past the appealing (often irrelevant) absurdities of artists' lives that often cloud their work...

    Meh....meh i say.

is that an "i've heard that album and wasn't impressed" or an "i have never actually heard a pete yorn song but i think he was on mtv once so based on how cool i am i cannot like him at all"?

    and who is jesse mccartney?
    and like that... he's gone.

From Doors' drummer John Densmore's website talking about a new book:

"The book's design is reminiscent of a kids' pop-up book, with envelopes and fold-out pages featuring photos and artifacts. Each chapter is topped off with a quote from another rock star — Alice Cooper, Nuno Bettencourt, Iggy Pop and PETE YORN, among others, describe the influence of Morrison and the Doors on their careers".

Look for yourself. Pete Yorn is a huge Doors head. Like I said, I think you are missing the depth of his lyrics. I don't buy into the mystic lizard king bullshit either...actually i think it's quite funny. But to say the music the Doors created was simple generic blues riffs, i think, is WAY off base.

ah, that makes sense then. i can see the similarities... he was in a boy band, a pop r&b singer, and an actor.

pete yorn is a singer-songwrtier, good guitar player, and made his name on the road playing live shows.

yeah, they're pretty much the same.

and i saw eddie wearing a love and rockets shirt... just cause someone i like lists someone as an influence doesnt mean im gonna like them anymore...

ive looked into the lyrics... alot... ive always tried my hardest to like them, especially since i have a few friends that are "door heads" (or "knob suckers")... if there was more to the music than the lyrics though then i would think the remaining members wouldve done something of substance beyond the doors since jims death...

sorry to start a debate... just throwing my .02 into the pot... obviously since im "supposed" to like them, im a minority and not worth trying to persuade

Who is Radiohead and Coldplay and add The Black Crowes too.

    Peace

black crowes, huh? have you ever seen them live? i haven't, but from the people i know that have, they say they're an entirely different band when playing live. i'd love to see them someday. they were just in my area not too long ago, but it was during the week and i couldn't get the night off from work.

sticking to the subject of the thread.....i guess i'd go with radiohead. although i like the song 'creep'. but that's it.
