Bands you should like but dont.

The first two pages of this thread are full of so much awful blasphemy :( How could anyone not get the Beatles/Zeppelin/Stones/Cash....etc?

For me, there are bands I don't like, but none of them I think I 'should like', that's a crazy theory....just like what you like and don't worry about genres or trends.

Lets start with The Beatles, this is just what my ears hear, my opinion, simple pop music, simple lyrics, I mean artists who write simple lyrics and music these days get slated ~Jack Johnson for instance it's apparently so innofensive and simple that it should be disregarded ~Gwen Stefani, Fergie also write songs that for the most part are childish and silly, select blueprints for their formulas would be Obladee Obladaa, Yellow Submarine.
I just have never seen the fascination.

Led Zeppelin, I like select songs by this band, Communication Breakdown, Immigrant Song for instance, but for the most part I just cant be chewed, the music just bores me, I prefer Sabbath when it comes to hard rock from the 70's I prefer Skynard, feels a little warmer and more heartfelt, Hendrix just has a certain jue ne se qua that I dont feel with Zep, they just dont do it for me.

Rolling Stones, brought up by a mother who loves the Stones, they started out with a residence in a hotel in Richmond, my mam grew up in the area and has hand written, signed letters from Mick and Brian, I heard the music a lot growing up as a young un and always found them not my thing, never really liked Mick Jagger, used to have nightmares about his lips, dont like his voice, since getting a bit older I've come to appreciate the odd song from the 60's, Gimmie Shelter, Paint It Black, Sympathy, but still for the most part just never got into them and like I say the lips arrrrrrggggghhhhhh.

Pink Floyd, The Wall just never grabbed me, didn't get the fascination with it, gave Piper at the Gates of Dawn a few listens, again couldn't get into it, gave up trying, it's just not for me.

The Who, I really do struggle with this band.

Uncle Bruce, another one like The Who.

Bob Dylan, either you love him or you hate his voice to the point you cant get past it, I'm in the later category, his voice has a similar effect on me to Mick Jagers lips, nightmares.

AC/DC, never liked them the voice sounds like he is struggling to relenquish a large turd and ommit from his anal passage and then you have a grown man dancing about the stage in a school boy outfit, disturbing image, although he can play guitar pretty well like I say my main problem is the same one I have with Dylan.

Now this is not to say I dont have great respect for what all these artists have done to influence, inspire and shape a lot of the music I listen to.:)

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear. I only meant extra harm to Van Halen by calling them pussies..not NIN. I actually like a couple of NIN songs, but put their entire discography together and their music is just not that good.

I think the hatred is for Bono mostly..and even that seems to be so misdirected..I mean just because he does a lot to end poverty..its weird..almost like people hate him because he makes them think

i recently discovered that i feel the same way about zep. their albums are kind of weak, and i think rolling stone was right to slag them in the beginning. they're not bad or anything. but the greatest hits is all i need. a lot of stuff in between is just not very interesting. if you want to go epic or bluesy, pink floyd and hendrix are better. if you want to go straight hard rock, skynyrd is better.
Pink Floyd, The Wall just never grabbed me, didn't get the fascination with it, gave Piper at the Gates of Dawn a few listens, again couldn't get into it, gave up trying, it's just not for me.

the wall is pretty overblown and has the usual problems of rock opera... cheesy "plot" interludes and songwriting sacrificed for the sake of a lame story. take away the ego and cut this down to one disc of just songs instead of some half-baked story and you've got a dynamite album. i've never liked syd barrett-era floyd. it's just weird. the reason i like pink floyd is the run from meddle to the wall... those are the good albums. even then, just like with led zep, there is no need for more than a compilation. it's a shame pink floyd doesn't have a decent one.

it is. my gf was the same way. claimed she couldn't stand them. recently she's begun to like them due to being around me and hearing the music without the bono overload. i understand how he can be too much for some people, but his heart's in the right place. he does more to make this world a better place than all of his detractors combined, so fuck em.

  • The hatred really is for Bono.

Oh, I forgot to add The Who to my list :o

The question for the thread is

Bands you should like but dont

Why should you like anyone? If you don't, you don't. :p

because everyone else in the world says they are amazing and that all music fans should appreciate them or something like that.

jesus man, some of you people were probably a real buzzkill as kids.

Apparently U2 are the greatest band in the world but i can barely tolerate them, besides a few songs. Same goes for The Beatles and Led Zep. I know their shit is good and maybe they are as good as everyone says but why? why the fuck do these bands deserve so much hype?
Agree with these totally; don't really like Floyd either and I hate Radiohead.

    The Smiths and Rush.

Morrissey should do all of us a favor and pull that trigger. End it already, will ya!

Rush is right up there with the worst bands of all time. As for playing their instruments yes they are talented but as for creating music and writing songs I would rather hear two cats fucking.

This is where I draw the line. I think you are completely missing the depth of his lyrics. The Doors played a lot more genres of music than generic blues. Waiting for the Sun, Spanish Caravan, Land Ho, Strange Days etc..the list goes on and on. Without Jim...there is no Eddie Vedder!

  • Arcade Fire - I just don't get it.

The White Stripes - Few good songs but, not one solid album imo.

My Morning Jacket - Seems to be the latest hype around here.
