i preordered the delux set thing with the dvd and acoustic cd from the web site last week and got it in the mail on monday so i've had time to give it a few listens, i wouldn't say its shitty at all! i'm not gonna go into a song by song review or anything, but basically if you're a fan of rancid, you WILL like this album. its got 19 solid songs, and if you get the set with the acoustic versions, those are pretty sweet too. the only thing i'll say gets anoying is tim armstrong's slurring, for lack of a better word. i think he's been sober for a while now but i think its getting worse and worse with every album, i guess the bottle did its damage.
My favorite Pearl Jam song: "Corporate Greed Boat Asshole Behind a Counter in the Oval Office"
  • Is it anything like "out come the wolves" or is it more angry like the self-titled cd, or is it completely different? I wont be able to pick it up for a couple more days so I'm just wondering.

What did you think of Tim Andersons solo effort? I thought it was o.k., quite different from a typical Rancid disc. Thanks for posting.

definitely a mix between out come the wolves and indestructible, even the art work is reminicent of out come the wolves. i still find the self titled one hard to listen too! too heavy there. but i'm sure you'll like a lot of the new songs on it! (and i think you meant tim armstrong :), but i haven't had a chance to pick that up yet, i've heard a little on his myspace page, very reggae right?

  • Yea, my bad on Anderson(dumdass), don't quite know what I was thinking.

"Wolves" is probably my favorite, yes the self titled was kinda rough, it did have a couple of tunes I really liked Rwanda,Radio Havana,Rattlesnake, but I like their music better with a little melody, kind of fast. Didn't really like "Life won't wait" all that much either( it did have more songs on it I liked than "rancid" disc)

How's the acoustic disc, what's that like?

  • Armstrong's solo effort is so-so, kind of a reggae feel too it, it's like "life won't wait" but a little more mellow and toned down, it's got a couple of really good songs on it and some filler.

    I fucking love Rancid

    |The wolves record is the most complete punk record I ever heard. A stunning piece of work, and will sadly they will never match it again.

The self titled was poor, too hardcore for me, they lost their spark on that one, and that said life wont wait was poor too overall, Indestructible was mint though - they really hit form with that so I've been dying to hear this for new one for years.

Tim Armstrong still has some awesome vocals, especially live, He and Lars make a great duo so bring on the next tour

I just wish one day they would play junkie man....
  • Indestructible is a pretty solid record as well, anybody pick up the B-sides compilation. I think there is a bunch of stuff on that that could have made a good record back in the "wolf" days.

Well well well, Kerrang has done the usual.

A old band coming back with a new record. Now shall we review the music on it or write 4 paragraphs about how they havent made an album in 6 years, they are no longer relevant, they have been lazy, you'd have expected far more from a band after 6 years, this would make a good record from a new band, but becuase its Rancid they give it 2/5 without so much as a comment about what the record actually is like. Another example the wank English music press, lazy journalism, and stinks of the guy listening to it once and then throwing it to one side before writing about how Rancid used to be great

Incidentally, and very unsurprisingly, they reviewed Green Day with a nice old 5/5. Nothing like pandering to the masses eh? whatever is cool...yeah Kerrang thats the ticket
  • Anybody get to listen to this yet?, I'm going to order it tonight.

yeah, its good classic Rabicd, bit slower and more ska than normal but still if you like Rancid you'll still like it

    but its no wolves
  • Well it's Sept. 2 and I finally made it too the record store to get some new material. Rancid,Ryan Adams,NOFX and the new Cracker and the new Black Crowes(the reason I got off my ass and finally made the trip) 80 bucks in all.

Started with Rancid and am really digging it after about 3 listens, pretty solid effort. LA river, disconnected,up to no good, new orleans, lulu and the title track are stand out so far. Just listening to the acoustic disc as I write this, pretty decent, out of the norm for a band like Rancid but it's pretty cool.
