I'm seeing one of the EV solo shows in Albany, and would desperately love to get an autograph. Is there a stratagy to this? What's worked for other people. I'm not going to chase him or do anything crazy or threatening, I just want to know what, if anything, tends to work.

That is another option I have! And I don't drink, so I'm not going to be tempted to make a beer run half-way through...

    Handshakes are cool, too.

Go early before sound check and wait by the backstage entrance. If you are unsure where that is, make some calls ahead of time or get there earlier. I have had a lot of success before sound check. There are less fans there. I would say that typically, depending on the start time of the show, artists will get there between 3:30 and 4:00.

Ed was pretty forthcoming on the last solo tour. You go wait by the bus ... behind barricades, obviously ... and he'd come out of his own volition and chat with fans, sign a few autographs.

    This isn't 1995 anymore.

I was walking down Oxford Street in London the other day and Noel Gallagher from Oasis walked past me. I don't mind Oasis but I am a massive Noel fan, he seems a quality guy. I started to talk to him for a bit, and he was really sound. It's amazing one of the biggest artists in the UK, one of the most well known faces can walk down the busiest shopping street in the country without bodyguards.
    :D Rock on!!!! :D
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

:o You are CORRECT, sir! http://www.pearljam.com/song/pry They've never played it live, so, I wasn't able to verify.

You can't plan on it happening though. In Montreal, he left the fans in the dust while he escaped through another venue door and took off in a van. It takes pure luck and timing to get a chance to meet him.

People should not stalk for an autograph. If you happen to bump into him then great get an autograph but the whole waiting outside a venue for him to leave thing seems very creepy to me. :o

    Silly Wabbit!
Straight down the center for a hot chicken dinner!
  • Bruce Springsteen was arrested once for climbing the wall to Graceland trying to meet Elvis... He must be the most creepy... Mike McCready also waited outside the hotel to meet the Scorpions when he was younger... dude must be insane!

the lengths some fans go to to meet their favorite group/artist are legendary and totally a part of what Rock n' Roll is...long as no one gets hurt.

stalking is on a vastly different level and you shouldn't make someone feel like an asshole for wanting to wait around to meet Ed...or anyone for that matter.

Ed can tell you about some creepy shit and it won't involve someone chilling outside a venue.
  • I'm going to wait outside the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta covered in my own shit and see if Ed comes over to me to sign my copy of Yield.

It's really not creepy. Following him down the street, hiding out in the bushes --- THAT'S creepy. Hanging out in a public area where Ed might happen to walk by (ie, the street by the bus) ... there's no harm in that.
