DEVELOPING: As a part of a holy war against America, four men sought to commit jihad when they plotted to bomb a synagogue and shoot down military planes in upstate New York ,the NYCP commissioner said Thursday.

Police Commissioner R. Kelley told reporters outside the Bronx Synagogue Thursday that one of the men said"If Jews were killed in this attack...that it would be alright.

Kelley said"the men wanted to commit Jihad" and were angry about Muslims being killed in Afghanistan and Pakistan U.S forces.

Officials told the A.P. the arrest came following a nearly year long undercover operation that began in Newburgh N.Y. 70 miles N. of NYC.

The Defendants: James Cromitie,David Williams,Onta Williams, and Laguerre Payen-- Were charged with conspiracy to use WMD's and conspiracy to acquire and use anti-aircraft missiles. They also had allegedly planned to detonate a car with c4 outside the Riverdale Temple and the Riverdale jewish center in the Bronx.

In april 2009 the 4 suspects began conducting surveillance including photos of military planes at the air national gaurd base.

Earlier this month this month the 4 and an C.O traveled to Stanford Conn. to obtain what they thought would be surface to air guided missiles and 3 IEDs containing c4. The Co provided the suspects with a stinger surface to air guided missile provided by the FBI that was not capable of being fired.

The suspects transported these apparent weapons back to N.Y. and were later arrested

American civilians are legitimate targets because our country supports Israel.

I wasn't being serious. only echoing the opinions of some who support killing civilians. but to answer your question here, yes. that also seems to be the case.

    mind boggling.

While these headlines/arrests seem sensational, they always end up being a handful of idiots with a few digital pictures, some rantings on a website, but no money or actual plans to pull something off.

No, you join with the rest of the world and stop supporting Israel's state terrorism and ethnic cleansing campaign.

The U.S can stop vetoing every U.N resolution calling for a peaceful two-state settlement along the June 1967 border. Every other country in the world supports it. The U.S has blocked it unilaterally for the past 40 years. This doesn't constitute turning your back on Israel. It constitutes trying to establish a long-term peace in the region.

3 of the 4 were Americans... the other a Haitian... more than likely met in the prison system... converted to Islam.
    ...
So, if you look on the bright side... if the Guantanamo detainees are housed in U.S. prisons, we won't have to worry about them converting to Islam.

One of these incidents/mass arrests occurs every six months or so in the U.K. They generate big headlines and fear. Every single one of them up to now, as far as I'm aware, has turned out to be a sham.

No, I agree... but in the past these types of arrests have been portrayed (in the immediate aftermath) as some huge victory in the war on terror.

I'm not sure if the Obama camp will do this, seeing how they try to downplay the war on terror, but it will probably still be used as some sort of partisan football.

I blew it off at first, but after a little reading, they apparently did acquire weapons (albeit fake ones from an FBI informant). So maybe they were serious and somewhat capable.

    Glad they busted these guys.

That has long been one of the major grievences against us. We NEVER admit to Israel doing anything wrong over there. It's like we are their pet 800 pound gorilla or something.
We have to make the correct call on those situations in the Middle East... when the Palestinians act like assholes... call them assholes. When the Israelis act like assholes... call them assholes, instead of making up excuses for them every time.

That's how to fight this thing. Good old fashioned police work.
Yeah... if I'm a suspect... wiretap my phone... but, pay respect to our Constitution and get a fucking WARRANT.
And there are some skilled interigators in our law enforcement that get confessions and/or valuable information from suspects, without having to go all KBG on their asses. Locate those persons with those skills and put them on the case.
We had all the information we needed to stop the September 11th attacks... but all of the pieces were scattered over different agencies who were unwilling to share their pieces because they wanted credit for the collar.

pretty fcked up when you think about it. I could be wrong on this but didnt the feds or the CIA knock on the door of the first 2 terrorist that came here to learn how to fly planes on the morning of 911 ?

There's a sobering documentary called 'The Man Who Knew', about a New York FBI agent assigned to the Bin Laden case. He had pieced together all the information regarding the attacks, but was stopped by internal feuds and buracracy of FBI management, CIA closure and U.S. diplomatic roadblocks by our ambassador in Yemen. Egos and people more concerned with their official careers than our security screwed up the investigation.

We have great people in our law enforcement. They are and will be the ones who protect us and we don't have to shred our Constitution and our reputation of being the Good Guys in doing so. I have faith in their skills.

this is what the 9/11 truthers twist around. we were attacked partly because of our lack of communications between agencies. I think it was from this documentary that shows how it was customary (accepted, something they were proud of) for the agencies to not share information. I was completely shocked when I found this out.

You know what else might have helped?
If that fucking dickhead flight instructor in Florida had reported that there were assholes that wanted to learn how to fly a plane, but were NOT interested in taking off and landing, to the police. The guy in Michigan reported this... what the fuck was that asshole in Florida thinking??? My guess... he wasn't thinking as long as they paid the fee.

he fucked up, no doubt. but I think many Americans had a similar mind set. we let our guard down. we got complacent. many Americans thought an attack on our homeland simply wasn't possible. it had been generations since we were attacked at pearl harbor. and that wasn't the mainland and the attack was against military installations, so even that was a little different.

That's correct. It wasn't some sort of conspiracy... it was these douchebag management types that cared more about their personal careers, bonuses and promotions than their jobs... catching the fucking bad guys.
We need to take the lessons we've learned from our mistakes and correct them so they never happen again.
And we, the people, need to be diligent, too. If a fucking guy wants to buy a Stinger rocket or a .50 caliber rifle at a gun show... report his ass. Let the cops sort out the guy's reasons... a collector or someone looking to shoot at an airliner taking off at the end of a runway.

But, the guy in Michigan thought it was suspecious and did the right thing... he told the cops. The cops did the investigations and it turned out.. he was the other 'pilot'. I'd do the same thing... if i knew a guy next door had 100 bags of sulfur nitrate stockpiled in his garage, I'd drop a dime on his ass because I don't know if he's building a McVeigh truck bomb or just wants to over fertilize his lawn. Reporting suspecious activity is the right thing to do. Let the cops figure out the details.
