So...what does this band mean to you?

It's not just that their music has gotten me through tough times, or that I feel so much meaning through their music...it's also because the guys are genuine and believe in standing up for their beliefs and not just being commercial and mainstream idols...The fact they're so socially and politically aware not to mention generous about the causes that mean the most to them -- that's a big part of why I love them so much.

I was seriously considering trying to start having babies this year...
Then realised early this year there'd more than likely be an Aussie tour at the end of the year...
So babies are now on the backburner until 2010! 8-)

the band is proof to me that social construct isn't as powerful as we are led to believe ... that you can do it your way and as long as it comes from the heart - let the chips fall where they may ... that integrity is everything ...

as for the politics - i fall mostly in line with ed .. i too do not think obama is the saviour although i don't see him much as a fraud as i do someone trapped in a corrupt system ...

Al Gore should have been our President...it might be an entirely different country right now had the election not been stolen.

Anyway...what does this band mean to me. I have to let that digest a bit and write later. It is huge.

This is all I know:

George Bush beat Al Gore by 537 votes in Florida...the deciding state.
Ralph Nadar received 97,421 votes in Florida.
Therefore, if Nadar didn't run, Gore would have won the presidency.

Well I argue that they couldn't have stole it if Nadar didn't run because Gore's margin of victory would be too large to tamper with.

But enough about the 2000 election. I don't think people will ever stand up and say "We've had enough" unless they bring back prohibition...because our nation has shown in the past that that's the only issue we'll ever fight for.

As for Obama, yeah he's a politician just like any other. In fact, you can argue he's the greatest politician ever since he managed to be elected as a 45 year old black man with the middle name Hussein. I believe he's the right guy for the job. But I know what you mean when you say "people are wising up to him." Not that he's corrupt (that we know of) but a lot of Obama fans are just that...."fans of his" and not "citizens under him." But now that his honeymoon period is over (and we have 7 years left of him), I think a lot of those "fans" have begun judging him like any other president.
