So...what does this band mean to you?

It's not just that their music has gotten me through tough times, or that I feel so much meaning through their music...it's also because the guys are genuine and believe in standing up for their beliefs and not just being commercial and mainstream idols...The fact they're so socially and politically aware not to mention generous about the causes that mean the most to them -- that's a big part of why I love them so much.0

had a shitty morning..hoped in the car and cranked some PJ on the way to work...never fails to help my mood shift!0

I don't mind the prominent political views, I agree with most of it, and am happy to stand behind a band that has such a defined social stance. I guess Pearl Jam is just part of who I am; they have provided unparalleled enjoyment and promoted my awareness. Thier music carries such an intense feeling of empathy with me, it resonates. They are so real... I feel that they really understand the bigger picture... the message, it takes precedence, it always shines through. They aren't fake, they aren't selfish, they pour every ounce of who they are into thier music. They always seem to be current, offering just the inspiration I need, when I need it. I don't feel THIS way about any other band, and maybe that's because there is really nothing else like them. They have championed thier views even when they weren't popular opinions. They have withstood so much adversity and stuck to what they believe. Honestly.. that's the kind of person I strive to be, and, in part, some of that strength has come from Pearl Jam.
And, in addition to all this...THEY JUST ROCK!!Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight

I was seriously considering trying to start having babies this year...
Then realised early this year there'd more than likely be an Aussie tour at the end of the year...
So babies are now on the backburner until 2010! 8-)★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★
★ 2009 - Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Christchurch ★

the band is proof to me that social construct isn't as powerful as we are led to believe ... that you can do it your way and as long as it comes from the heart - let the chips fall where they may ... that integrity is everything ...
anyone can put a few chords together and sing:
Sorry is the fool who trades his love for hi-rise rent
Seems the more you make equals the loneliness you get
And it's fitting, he's barely living a day he'll soon forget
but it takes ed and the rest of the guys to make it relevant
as for the politics - i fall mostly in line with ed .. i too do not think obama is the saviour although i don't see him much as a fraud as i do someone trapped in a corrupt system ...0 -
Let me first insert a quote here...
“So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” -Morrie Schwartz
... this band, the music they make, the things in life they value, everything... - - I couldn't wish for a better teacher. I have learned a lot from them, and will continue to learn and realize more every day because of them. They're unique, special. I'm so thankful that I somehow discovered them and their music back when I did.
...the music just feels so right, and true.. sinks right into my soul.Won't let the light escape from me.
Won't let the darkness swallow me.0 -

Al Gore should have been our President...it might be an entirely different country right now had the election not been stolen.
Anyway...what does this band mean to me. I have to let that digest a bit and write later. It is huge.0 -

I'm not interested in voter fraud, butterfly ballots or any other election-stealing tactics.
This is all I know:
George Bush beat Al Gore by 537 votes in Florida...the deciding state.
Ralph Nadar received 97,421 votes in Florida.
Therefore, if Nadar didn't run, Gore would have won the presidency.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. yeah roll your eyes with your little internet animations. We all know the election was stolen. Nothing in that article you posted is news to me. But you can't deny the Nadar factor. If he didn't run, Bush and Cheney could have never hijacked the election.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. they would of stole it no matter who ran or didn't run...same shit happened in 2004....the sooner we realize this country is in deep, deep shit...the sooner we can stop the bleeding...it's not going to happen by electing more corrupt puppet assholes..it will only happen when the people stand as one and say "we have had enough!!" and work together to heal our country.
people are wising up to Obama...so there is hope.

Well I argue that they couldn't have stole it if Nadar didn't run because Gore's margin of victory would be too large to tamper with.
But enough about the 2000 election. I don't think people will ever stand up and say "We've had enough" unless they bring back prohibition...because our nation has shown in the past that that's the only issue we'll ever fight for.
As for Obama, yeah he's a politician just like any other. In fact, you can argue he's the greatest politician ever since he managed to be elected as a 45 year old black man with the middle name Hussein. I believe he's the right guy for the job. But I know what you mean when you say "people are wising up to him." Not that he's corrupt (that we know of) but a lot of Obama fans are just that...."fans of his" and not "citizens under him." But now that his honeymoon period is over (and we have 7 years left of him), I think a lot of those "fans" have begun judging him like any other president.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea.
