    nice... I just submitted:

With almost 20 years of history of the band, there's been one question that presumably tens-of-thousands would like to know the answer to. Pearl Jam's popularity skyrocketed in the early 90's, especially with the amazing, energetic, tight live performances on early unofficial bootlegs.

The drummer Dave Abbruzzese was let-go (fired) in 1994, and that spawned a huge shift in the musical direction for the band's future albums, and a big difference in the way older songs are performed. Can you answer, now 15 years later, why this happened? Personality conflicts? Musical conflicts?

When the drumming personnel changed, for myself and my friends, it was as dramatic as a change of singers, yet it's lack of reference by the band could only be compared to when Bewitched changed "Darrin" on the audience without notice or reference.

Email them the same question! If they get a number of people asking the same question - they'll HAVE to ask it.

I'm hoping that since any hot temper he had HAS to be cold at this point, that he may actually "give us the truth". I'm not holding my breath though... they kept his image off of unplugged. pretty shallow.

It's really quite simple. Ed thought Dave was a douchebag.

    Asked, and answered.

Wouldn't it be cool if Ed did things like that for his own fan club's magazine? Guess there isn't room between the banana bread recipes and interviews with Josh Homme.

I think you have the concept of a good question here, but I fear you've missed the mark. The better question is how Ed was personally affected by the Darrin switcheroo. I'm sure the cross section of Pearl Jam + Bewitched fans is huge -- this could provoke probably enough emotion from the band for some new material.

    my questions would be:

    1) Will Pearl Jam ever open up "the fault"? How about selling the songs for a $1 each for charity? The West Memphis Three maybe? OPEN UP THE VAULT ED!!

    2) Do you ever go back and listen to the songs as recorded so you have the lyrics similar for when playing songs live? Certain songs done live make me think you never revisit the songs and how we remember them originally.

    3) What does it feel like being part of the world's greatest current live, touring band and knowing you and your work mean so much to the world and your fans?

    4) Are you aware of how your actions, lyrics, and music has impacted so many fans and exponentially led to so many great projects and things done to help others?

    5) Who will be the next Ed Vedder as Pete Townsend was to you? Can you immagine some younger musician one day playing along side you, fulfilling his wildest dreams, and you being his childhood idol?

    6) When will you release your solo concerts and make them available via DVD and CD? Again, proceeds can go to charity and fans will eat them up!

    7) Will you and the band please please come back and play the Spectrum in Philly before they tear it down this year!?

I agree they should do something like this for an issue of DEEP magazine...let us ask Ed anything that is on our minds...Of course he probably would not answer 90% of the questions but what the hell it would be worth a shot!

    GREAT questions, esp # 6

It's really quite simple. Ed thought Dave was a douchebag.

    Asked, and answered.

Thanks Ed. I didn't know you posted on the porch...

Why would you think I'm Ed? Ed would never refer to himself in the third person ... except for in the lyrics to "Blood."

Wouldn't it be cool if Ed did things like that for his own fan club's magazine? Guess there isn't room between the banana bread recipes and interviews with Josh Homme.

yeah really! :D:D f uncut magazine...

I remember reading somewhere that when they were about to release Vs, Dave A. said something like "So, is Daughter going to be the first single?" And the rest of the band was not at all thinking that way, so right there is a start of a shift. Plus, after watching Touring Band, you can really see how they must have gone through some serious communication issues together, and that Jack Irons helped keep them talking to each other rather than quitting. Remember, Dave A. was only around for Vs. and 80% of Vitalogy, as far as studio albums go. Jack Irons, more than anyone, changed the direction of the band. Matt C. brought his own songwriting styles from Wellwater Conspiracy and they have since gelled into the one unit they are now. No Code, for me, is the best album cuz it represents how much potential PJ realized they had.

    Thanks, Jack.

    Dear Ed,

-Are you ready to explore new territories to tour through, perhaps at Pearl Jam's 20 year anniversary? Do you or your band mates have any real wishes to do so?

-When on stage with the band, do you ever have any conflicts about the next song on the set-list? Do you recall a certain show when the guys disagreed about the set?

-What is it that most inspires you to write these days? Has your muse changed it's nature in recent years?

-Who comes up with opening act choices for your shows? Are there particular opening acts you would be keen to follow – and who would you be excited to open for, if given the opportunity?

    - You're a 20 something and your favourite band is in town for a GA show. Do you queue up for 8 hours or do you hit the pub with a bunch of mates?

    - How the fuck did you come up with that silly name for your second kid?

    - While you're commemorating the Ten era and all that, would you kindly reenact that time at Lolla 92 when you drank bile beer and put it on youtube?

    - Did you laugh when Jeff wrote Help Help and asked you to sing it?

    - We know you get the final say when you guys sit down to decide on the setlist. If the band pushed for doing Sweet Lew, would you be fine with that?
