just noticed that "you never know" rips a george harrison guitar riff - is it "my sweet lord"?

I heard this song initially and thought to myself "this riff sounds familiar..."
It bugged me for a few days until I realized that is was "Life Wasted" that it sounded like. Just a single riff, not exactly, but similar enough.

Overall, the album is growing on me. Just like Sky Blue Sky didn't initally impress me, it took a few listens to enjoy it.

welcome to the board. not a bad first post you managed to talk about pearl jam and wilco in the same one 8-)

I've played the album to death but i don't think it is a great album. Good.... but it is just not grabbing me. I might put it down for a few weeks and come back to it adn see how it sounds then.

That's the thing I love about music, everyone has a different perspective on it.

I love Sky Blue Sky, it's different from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Ghost is Born and everything before. Each album goes in a different direction. I'm still feeling out Wilco (the Album), but I felt the same way for weeks about SBS when I first picked it up.

It was Yield that really grabbed my attention and pulled me on board with Pearl Jam. I went backwards from there and grew to love all the previous albums, which vary from album to album. I regret to an extent not grabbing those albums when they first came out. I've heard people rag on PJ's more recent albums but I personally love them.

I hate when a band just recycles their previous albums over and over. I can't really get into AC-DC for that reason. I'm not bashing them, to me it just all sounds the same over and over after 20+ years. More power to bands that take the chance and do something different, perhaps at the expense some of their fans. You win some, you lose some.

And thanks for the kind welcome to the board. I should have started posting here a long time ago.

the new record is growing on me
A lot of it sounds like Tweedy and Nels wrote this stuff on the tour bus, tweedy playing the acoustic and Nels playing the lap steel.
While I like the music in Wilco (the song), something about having the name of the band in the song seems kinda tacky.
I probably wont have a final opinion on the songs until I hear them live.
I look forward to hearing tweedy shred black bull nova live

I think every wilco album is a grower as nothing hits you until you have heard a song 4 or 5 times. I really enjoy the new album. I lot of summerteeth type melodies (Everlasting, you & i & solitaire especially), good mid tempto typical wilco (i'll fight, sunny feeling) plus an absolute ball breaker (BBN). I like that they don't take themelves too seriously and release something like wilco (the song). The real test is always new songs live and I'm bursting to hear bull black nova in wilmington!
