Wondering how people are planning on getting from hotel to United Center. Cab, train, bus???

Me too. I'm not able to go to the pre-party but am staying in the downtown area. We were hoping to take the El to and from the United Center but I've read that it is not in a safe area. From the map, it looks like the Blue line to Medical District seems like the closest option and is about a 1/2 mile walk to the UC.

I read the same discouraging stories about taking the subway in Philly to the Wachovia Center a few years back as well as the Tower Theater in June to see Ed. It was all totally unwarranted as we took the subway roundtrip to both venues without any issues and no time felt unsafe.

In Chicago, I figure that there will be a lot people going this route both before and after the concert, and as long as we're in a group, we should be fine but I might be basing it on my New York City sensibilities as our subways are pretty much busy all of the time.

We were also considering a cab, which would be fine going, but thought it might be difficult finding one after the concert. The bus seems like the slowest option but would consider it too if that's the only option.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the public transport options?

    Thanks.

I'm going to try to walk mostly and take the El. Luckily my daughter has been to Chicago a few times and she knows a bit about how to ride it.
I was going to take a cab from the airport to the hotel, I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza/Chicago Metro, but I checked their website and they offer a shuttle from the airport to the hotel so I think I am going to do that.

I'm with you man....trying to figure out how to get back to the Hyatt after the concert

I know there are shuttles going from the UC to Moretti's for the after party but I'm not sure if we'll do that or not....I guess we could take the shuttle to Moretti's and hang out for a bit and then take a cab

Green Line from Ashland/Lake to State/Lake. Then walk a few blocks to the hotel.

is the walk from the UC to Ashland/Lake pretty safe? I imagine there would be several hundred people walking the same route

Perfectly safe. I take it all the time from bulls/haks games to work(I work @ night, so I hit the game before work).

There will be plenty of cops and people on the street.

Best Route if you're worries is walk east on Madison to ashland, then make a left(going northboud) to lake street. the station is easy to spot.

ALSO, the #19 CTA bus is the UNITED CENTER EXPRESS. It'll take you to michigan ave. Those busses are on madison street alongside the UC.

I need some advice, if anybody can help.

I'm going to the concert solo, and my girlfriend is staying at the Hyatt. I would like to know if it would be safe for her to travel by herself either from the UC back to the hotel before the concert (if we go to the preparty) or from the Hyatt to the UC after the concert (to meet up with me for the after party).

The third option (depending how late the after party goes to) would be I leave the concert, go back to the hotel, and then we both head out. If we do this, is there any reccomended night spots?

I have 2 tickets, and 4 people travelling with me. That leaves 2 people left behind each night (I'm kick ass at math) We are staying at the Hyatt also, so maybe she can go to/from the pre/post parties with my friends.

That sounds like an idea...depending on the timing. Thanks!

Yo, B-Rye my man, let me get this straight. Assuming the hottie in your avatar is your girlfriend, you're going to the show w/o her?

Yup...right on both counts...she's just tagging along for the hotel ;) I have single tix to the shows (through another 10c'er since I missed the presale). She's came with me to both Mansfield shows last year though.

Thanks! It sounds like either the train or the bus will work - perfect! (And, the bus tracker on the CTA website is so awesome. I would love to have that here in NYC.)
