I think if they do play the spectrum, it will be the last show announced

Agreed. I think if they play it at all, it will be the last show of the year.

I hope for all you philly folks that this pans out. But I wonder what the big deal is if they play there this year or next is? I am fortunate as I live on the West coast so I have seen my fair share of shows but last year they only did the East coast thing and those poor folks in the South and even Mid West have been left out for some time.

Not trying to stir the pot or anything just wondering why it is so critical that Pearl Jam plays the East, West, Europe, etc.. every time they tour. Maybe I am missing something, but I wasn't upset last year when the East coast got all the love. It all works out in the end.

The deal is that the Spectrum is getting torn down at some point at the end of this year or the beginning of next, so if PJ wants to play in the venue's fairwell concert series, they better hurry up.

Got ya, being from the West I have no idea what significance this venue has for Pearl Jam or how often they have played it in the past. Thanks for the post, hopefully they are able to make that happen.

they've actually only played the spectrum once. other bands played the spectrum countless times over the years.

    Hey Folks,

The response I go was "Right now it is just talk, nothing has been signed YET"

Sorry I couldn't do better. Sounds like they are keeping pretty tight-lipped. The is from someone who would be very familiar with negotiations.

There are a lot of rumors that go around to employees within Comcast-Spectacor. Take what you hear from most people with a grain of salt.

For whatever it's worth, the fact he said "nothing has been signed YET", to me means there is a very good possibility it is going to happen.

Today's paper states that a final concert could be held on Sept 30th, the 42nd anniversary of the building's opening. But no official closing date or event has been announced. "We're flexible if we can get the right acts or artists," Luukko said. Luukko is president of Comcast-Spectacor, owner of the Spectrum.

Talk is good! I think many of us had assumed that this wouldn't fit in to their touring schedule this year. So if talks are ongoing, it is definitely a good thing!

For what it's worth, in August of 2005 my old boss at MSG sent me an email saying PJ may be playing in Feb of 2006. Then in Nov of 2005 she said PJ had two dates held at MSG in late May of 2006.

Later in Nov or Dec they released their hold on the dates. They ended up booking Storytellers on one of the dates they originally held MSG for, and if I remember correctly, PJ did two shows at CAA/Izod/Meadowlands... whatever it's called nowadays, which probably were to replace their "new york" arena shows at MSG.

Venue/promoter/band negotiations sometimes don't come to fruition. It does however give one an indication of intention.

For what it's worth, on the Springsteen message boards their "insiders" in Philly said there are rumors of a big farewell concert in the fall (September 30th?) which would have a bunch of the bands who played the Spectrum over the years making appearances and playing a few songs. Again, just a rumor. I imagine something like that would take some time to put together.

I'm in South Jersey, but honestly, we've gotten so many Camden/Philly shows over the years that I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get one this year, considering how few shows are being played in the United States.

I really like the sound of that, and the September 30th possibility seems like it could fit their schedule, allowing for another show or two before Austin City Limits (which I assume they'll be playing the last day, 10/4?).

I think we will know if it is possible once the rest of the dates are announced and we all see how the cities and dates fall into place for the West. If they don't come past Austin, may be unlikely, but if they end somewhere sotuh like Atlanta, may be more likely.

    Alright folks,

I heard back a couple weeks ago that PJ at the Spectrum was not happening. I didn't want to post anything right away hoping things would change. That it just did!

This is from the assistant to the GM of both buildings. She said that Pearl Jam, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi will be playing the Spectrum in September. I hope to not be held to this but am confident enough to post it.

I will probably know more this weekend as I am going to the Saturday Yanks-Philies (Yankees fan living in Philly) game with someone that will definitely have more detials.

No problem. I am starting to get my hopes up but don't want to get too excited. Hopefully I will have something more this weekend.

Regarding multiple shows, that would be very suprising to me considering The Dead and Bruce both only had 2 and they have so much history in that arena.

Hey, I am heading out to Ausitn to see them ,so while it would be awesome to see them again locally, especially in the Spectrum, I am already going to see them this year.

That's great news ... if true.

This could shape up to be the strangest tour ever. I'd imagine that if they do play the Spectrum it will be towards the end of the month right before ACL. But this is the most unpredictable tour ever, so who knows :)

i hope they are negotiating for unlimited fan club seating, or at least raise the max # of tickets the fan club can sell

the spectrum shows are happening folks.. you do not self release an album and not promote on the east coast... thats what this whole tour is, a quick album release promo before a longer follow up world tour... 4 shows in europe, 3 in chi/tor, 2 west/southwest fesitvals... limited west coast tour dates to come...

they have to play somewhere on the east coast... this is a self release, which means no traditional corporate advertising or promotion... the east coast of america is the world largest consumer market, and pearl jams largest market
