  • Just learned Sapporo bought Stone last year. A lot of the big boys selling. Seems like craft is on the way out.

Yeah, I saw a lot of brewery closures in the past 6 months.  Seems the bubble has popped to some degree.  The big boys (TreeHouse, etc) have already carved out their territory, and I think people are consuming less alcohol in general lately.

Also, Spending $20 for a 4 pack doesn’t look as good now as it did 2-3 years ago.  A lot of craft beer drinkers are even switching back to cheap domestics for daily pours.

Today is National Independent Beer Run Day.  Cheers!  The purpose of this day is to get people to go out and spend more money at their local, independent, craft breweries.  The industry is really hurting now, lots of brewery closures and layoffs, so if you have the time and money, please get out and support your favorites!

  • Spending some time in New England this October. Portland, ME up to Bar Harbor. Then over to NH (Lincoln) before moving on to some time in VT (Stow/Waterbury/Burlington). After that, Salem/Boston. Any MUST visit breweries on the way?

I did this last summer - well we went from Philly to Bar Harbor for vacation. I purposely made our halfway point to overnight in Charlton to stop at Treehouse, and then stopped at Bissell Bros. for lunch in Portland on our way up, and then Maine Beer Co. in Freeport on our way back.
  • That's a start!

The last 7-8 years, I have been ALL IN on craft beer.  Spending hundreds regularly, trading for beers cross country, the whole thing.

The last 6 months, I have been drinking whatever is in the coolers at my local Wegmans.  The only exception is I may trade for some TreeHouse or Fidens for a special occasion or holiday weekend.

For me, as a mainly hazy IPA fan, too many places began doing the same thing, often not that well at the end of the day, and some of the top tier places had a dip in quality.  Combine that with how expensive it has gotten to drink craft beer, and yeah, I have slowed down significantly.

Same here.  Got really into the whole craze 5-6 years ago but it has really died down.  Now it has to be a beer that I know I really like to commit to an $18 4 pack of hazy IPAs.  There are a couple bottle shops around me where you can get single cans which is really nice.  Have also been getting more into bourbon lately as well.
