Still fucked up today in A LOT of places imho!
On the topic of gays and gay rights, our society has shown very little improvement...

I'd prefer to say NO improvement, but I know there would've been some backlash for that. I just don't consider sitcoms about gays improvement. Hate crimes are still a reality, along with the neglect of civil rights.
It's assanine to deny people partnership because it's immoral...who says, the bible? A piece of holy literature which the whole world does NOT live there lives by? If you're going to deny gays marriage, then we might as well outlaw inter-racial couples, right? Let's not pick and choose which civil rights we'd like to acknowledge. If we're going to piss on one of them, piss on them all.
I hope one day people will realize that not everyone lives by the bible, or religion for that matter.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

said it better than i could...
i always find it funny when people want to infer liberalism and say "the left coast" and yet iowa, middle america if there ever was, allows gays the rights they should have and leftist, commie california doesn't...except for la and sf, this is a pretty conservative state...hence our governor :roll:0 -
Well, I am just going to have to rent this movie by myself I guess. I've wanted to see it for ages and never got a chance. It was showing in my town for like 1 week and now my husband isn't that interested in it although I'm guessing it's the kind of movie he'd like if he saw it.
I remember when Milk and Moscone were killed and how shocking it was. But I really have an interest in the story because I've met one of the people portrayed in it, Cleve Jones, several times. He founded the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and I used to do a lot of volunteer work for that organization. I've heard him speak very movingly about Harvey Milk and how he was influenced by him. So I can't believe that I still haven't seen this movie."The stars are all connected to the brain."0 -

I wasnt impressed.
I have said before, and will say it again, sean penn is one of those actors who deserves to have his movies checked out by everyone reguardless of reviews. That said, his work in the past is so much more powerful than this film. Into the Wild was mindblowing. 21 grams was mindblowing. Hurly Burly was mindlowing. dead man Walking was mindblowing. Casualties of War-mindblowing.
He didnt become Harvey in the movie. His performance was subpar.
He is capable of making and being in some life changing films. This movie was just not one of them.0
