Okay, first of all I mentioned this clause on here over a month ago and got beat down by people for talking about it. I live in Austin and from what I have heard, the clause for ACL is for the Headliners, and does NOT include the actual city of Austin. Last year David Byrne played at the Paramount on the Thurs. before ACL here in Austin. I know C3 Presents who are from Austin put on ACL also do Lolla, I'm not sure what the clause is for Lolla, but remember when PJ played at the Vic, it was IN Chicago, not in a neighboring town.
I think that what they are trying to stop are headliners playing in close by competing markets, it is also common for lots of band a performers, headliners and lower level acts to do an ACL tapings and play at Stubbs or the Austin Music Hall and other venues the weekend of ACL fest as well as the days leading up to it. The year Bob Dylan was the headliner, he played a show at Stubbs, so I think the clause is more about bands and performers not playing in a competing city as some people in that city may just go see them there and not make the trip to ACL and Lolla. Again, these are just things I hear in Austin, I'm not even really sure if this clause even exists or not, I am going to ask some people I know this week and try to get a straight answer. Again, these are just my opinions based on information that I have heard over the years here in Austin from people who are slightly in the know, some more slightly than others.
The ACL studios can hold around 350 to 475. It all depends on wheteher the fire marshall shows up. Seriously. It's not a small room but the exits are pretty cramped so they take it pretty seriously. They are going to be moving to a much bigger venue in a year or two, which has it's positives and negatives. I've been to 3 tapings (MMJ, Drive By Truckers and a split with Blind Boys of AL and Robert Randolph) and honestly there is no better sounding venue.
So I have to ask, did you just get lucky when you requested the tickets, or do you know someone who was able to set you up?
someone i know that works there got me MMJ. Blind Boys I got tickets at one of the drops and Truckers were on the friday afternoon of the festival and were a late replacement for badu and it wasn't even full.
A lot of the ACL bands do official and unofficial aftershows around town Thursday - Sunday of ACL fest.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.
Lollapalooza has been in Chicago for the past few years.. think they have a 5 year contract.
Many, many bands do pre and post shows in little clubs throughout the city. Some are advertised and some are secret.. others industry only.
PJ played Lolla and had their own show at the Vic. That's all they did.
Other cities and festivals most likely see a similar thing. The thing about ACL is that Dalls is really far away. (Isn't it?) Bonnaroo didn't have a Nashville show. PJ could have EASILY sold out a medium sized venue 60 miles away but it didn't happen.
I hope it happens but I'm not planning on it. Unfortuneately.

Not really sure why you put my post quoted above yours, as I mentioned in my post that lots of acts play at Stubbs, the Austin Music Hall and ACL tapings during ACL week, it's in the second paragraph of my post, so yes I know that ACL bands play these shows, that's why I mentioned it. As far as ACL tapngs holding 350 to 475 people, those numbers are way off, try 250-275, they used to be able to squeeze that many people into the UT communication building, but a couple of years ago the fire marshall started to crack down on them and they were forced to reduce the number to around 250-275 max, so they no longer try to get that many people in there any longer. As for the person who asked how I get into the tapings, I have a friend who used and still can sometimes get us in, I saw Robert Plant and Kings of Leon with him, I have seen other tapings ( Ray Davies, MMJ, Bob Weir/Ratdog) by just knowing people and sometimes just getting lucky.
And yes they are moving the taping location in the next 2 years, it will be able to hold up to 2,500 people, but I have also heard they are also going to be able to change the seating configuration to make it smaller if they like depending on who the band or performer is. When they do the PJ taping I will pull out ALL the stops I have to to get in, the ball is already rolling, my friend who said he may be able to get me in told me last night at a party that he had bad news for me, his girlfriend is a HUGE Pearl Jam fan, I said well that's bad news for you then because your girlfriend and I are going to have a great time at the taping and we will tell you all about it. He knows I was joking, but he said he has already thought about just giving us both the tickets if he gets them.
PS with all the non-compete clause BS. PJ will have regional shows prior to or after ACL Fest. ACL Fest needs PJ not the other way around and there are always one offs and regional routing for festivals so if you or your band get bound to that clause you have shitty management
Maybe the promoters are more lenient depending on the sales for the festival? It makes sense for the clause to exist, but I'm sure there are exceptions made in certain circumstances. Also, aren't ACL and Lolla run by the same people? If that's the case, the Vic show happening before Lolla should mean that it's theoretically possible (not necessarily likely) that they could do the same kind of deal in Austin.

Pearl Jam will not be adding a Stubbs show or anything else aside from the 2 Austin performances that are known. There is no clause preventing them from playing elsewhere it's their choice.
Saturday is the TV show. So they are playing LA Thursday night, travel Friday, ACL TV Saturday, ACL Fest Sunday, travel Monday, LA show Tuesday.
I think that is the whole gist of it right there. Instead of four LA shows, why not two and then ACL and the Dallas and/or Houson?
as someone else stated in another thread- I think they were from TX (it might had even been you -haha) it's pretty much a slap in the face to TX

yeah, I wasn't sure. I thought it was from one of the regular posters from TX. I have a good friend in Dallas that is a huge fan- with a very low 10C number. When I was talking to her the other day, we both thought that for sure they would have at least one or two shows around ACL in TX, but as we all know this is not the case now- just shocking

Yeah, and to me both Dallas and Woodlands made it sound like they just couldn't say anything officially yet. I think the ACL date and the phone calls to the arenas are what made the news even more disappointing.

Even more disappointing is that in 2008 they actually had the Dallas venue booked. They were supposed to head ACL last year and play Dallas. superpages.com had them listed and the date of 9/28 on an email they sent out to subscribers. And then PJ pulled the plug.
For good reason I understand, still disappointing though.

That was one of the biggest letdowns in memory. I was SO looking forward to that weekend, having bought our ACL tickets way in advance and that show in Dallas was going to kick things off.
