Never. I'm in Australia I've dialed our emergency number triple Zero once for an ambulance for my sister who was very ill.

I was with my Dad when he called them once cause after my grandfather's funeral my mum, Dad and I arrived home early, they had work the next day I had school. Then my sisters arrived a bit after. We had a ladder against the front of our house, and some guy was up it trying to break in.

About 4 cop cars were at our house in less than a minute.

I know it's not funny, but it still made me smile.

Oh and we got robbed twice when I was a kid (We actually live in a pretty nice neighbourhood) and the cops cam and once I got to ride in the cop car around the block and I got to put the siren on. Hell Yeah.

Oh and I've been in the back of a cop car handcuffed. But that my friends is for a different thread...

once. I was road-raged on by a car full of drunks. I suspected they were drunk when they ran me into a meridian after swerving into my lane, despite me honking....my suspicions were confirmed when they started throwing beer bottles at my car as we drove down the road, in retaliation for the bird I flipped...
...just the one time for me...but in my teen years, I think my neighbours had it on speed dial...

    Twice.

First time I was 12. My brother had some friends over; one was already piss-drunk when he got there and drank a bunch more. His Mom came to pick him up (she's a registered nurse), discovered her son passed out and covered in puke (which I scooped out of his mouth with my fingers after putting him in a recovery position - good thing I had a first aid class in grade 5 - he nearly bit my fingers off, though) and yelled for someone to call 911 'cause he was showing signs of alcohol poisoning (or she panicked, as a Mom might. I was only 12, so my perceptions were limited). I also stood outside to meet the ambulance when it arrived.

The last time was about 2 years ago. The apartment building behind my Dad's place was on fire. Started on the balcony and was climbing up the outside wall. Didn't spread to any other units, thankfully.

once. At work I heard the screech of tires then a crash. I looked out my window and it was right there below me. The drivers started fighting and people were watching/trying to break it up. Meanwhile a lady got out of the car, walked to the side and just collapsed. nobody seemed to notice or care.

well I've never called 911 ;), but I've called our emergency number (112) a few times.

(there used to be a different number to call the police but now it's just the one.)

during my teen years when my friends and me hung out (getting more or less drunk) in parks with a big bunch of other kids, fights broke out between Finns and people from other countries.. between people who lived in different parts of the city.. you name it! so many times I'd call the police seeing as many others thought it was fun and exciting to witness a fight and whatnot. yeah, I've witnessed some gruesome stuff.

one time I was on a bus on my way home and noticed someone laying on a busstop across the street. I thought it looked like a girl I knew so I called the emergency number, they sent a police car over and she was "saved". thankfully nothing too bad had happened to her, she'd just drank too much. oh and I never got even half a thank you. nevermind, glad I could help.

one time I called the police cause the couple who lived above me were fighting like mad. young folks, the guy is 20 or something and I think the girl's barely 18. awful screaming and yelling, crying and stuff flying around.

for a while (years ago) my friends thought I was a bit of an idiot for calling the police etc. when people were beating the hell out of each other but I'm glad to say they've grown up now.

Too many times to count...I grew up in a ghetto.

A few memorable ones...Heard screaming/gunshots a couple houses down and then a fire, it was a triple homicide, attempted murder on the fourth person and then tried to torch the house down.

Called for a robbery in my neighbors house. 3 guys with guns ran in there.

A hit and run on the corner.

A family held hostage across the street from a guy fleeing the cops.

Those were the times I called on top of some other minor ones...there were many others my parents, neighbors, or school called as well.

Almost every time the cops took their sweet ass time showing up. Good times.

    Twice.

Once some asshole down the street kept revving (sp?) up his stupid Fast and the Furious car at 2:30am. It woke my son up, and I wasn't too pleased. The second time, same people down the street were fighting and screaming at eachother late at night and I seriously feared for the womans life. Love my neighborhood.

My extension at work is, for some reason, 911. So, many folks forget, hit 8 for an "outside" line and then dial 911 by mistake.

    Once, just recently actually.

My grandma thought she might be having a minor heart attack or something or other, so I asked if she wanted me to call and ambulance so i did...they picked her up, I followed them to the hospital with my girlfriend and we stayed at the hospital until about 2 am to find out she had an inflamed bersa (sp?) which was causing the numbness and pain her arm, shoulder, and some of her chest.

I accidentally called it once. I was programming my phone and the key sequence was something like #611#. That's what I entered and then I was connected to an operator. I felt like shit and double checked my call log and it showed #611#. Needless to say, I didn't try and program that feature into my phone again.

I've been in a couple of minor accidents, but I didn't feel that they warranted 911 so I called the local dispatch non-emergency number.

    many, many times...

the most memorable was the time that I was driving down Highway 9...middle of the night, foggy across the flats just past the river. Suddenly I see a guy laying across the yellow line - with his body taking up most of both lanes. I swerved to the right into the median and just barely avoided hitting him. Got out thinking it was a hit and run or somehting to find the dumbass was upset that I didn't kill him???

So I called the cops, they came and said that this guy had tried to commit suicide this way several times and took him off to jail.

That still haunts me...what if I had hit that jackass??? I was only 17 at the time!

I think 4 or 5 times. Mostly because a customer at the restaurant is having a heart attack or has fallen down a flight of stairs or something. I didn't call 911 when my manager was murdered because after running for my life and finally making it to a telephone, the cops had already arrived.
I called 2 or 3 months ago when I was road-raged on. The dispatchers kept transferring me to someone else until I finally just hung up after talking to the 5th new person!
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

Yep. That was pretty scary. It was 8 years ago. I remember riding around in a police cruiser and they were pointing out different guys on the street, asking me if that was the suspect. I was scared, I just wanted to duck down in the back seat!

The DA asked me to, but when I told him I was 8.5 months pregnant and would rather not, he understood. There was plenty of evidence against the guy without my testimony.

I've probably called 5-10 times. Once when someone was trying to get into my house. Once when someone was trying to get into my neighbor's house. Once when I heard a woman screaming and looked out the window of my apartment and thought I saw a woman getting thrown into a car that then sped off. Several times for customers having seizures and other medical emergencies when I was a theater manager.

There have been other such situations, especially in the theaters, but I don't remember whether I called 911 or a non-emergency line. We were robbed once when I was on duty. Another time a guy shot one of the urinals. The fire department had to come rescue a guy once who got his hand stuck in a cup holder - twice. We had a fire in the building and no one would leave. Fights. Drunk homeless people passed out and won't wake up. That kind of thing.
