Weird PJ openers

I was just looking over some stats because I was bored and damn ..

in 94 they opened with indifference .. and also opened bridge school with walking the cow! (wonder what it sounded like then)
in 95 they opened with act of love
in 98 they opened with spin the black circle
in 00 they opened with whipping
in 03 they opened with cropduster
in 06 they opened with last kiss

there's been some odd pj openers throughout the years (idk maybe alive, mfc, present tense, betterman, given to fly, etc...) but these above are just odd as shittttt! interesting. for anyone who has been to any of these shows, lets hear some thoughts on how you thought they were!

..and actually i know i listed betterman as unexpected but done a few times .. still, that one just sounds weird. how is it as an opener?

in 03 they opened with cropduster

The only way I think I could ever be dissapointed at a PJ concert is if they opened with Cropduster haha. I have a boot of them opening with Betterman in San Diego, pretty cool, sounded like the crowd was goin nuts.

cropduster is a fantastic song, i just think it would cause some scratching heads as an opener.

haha .. honestly, that seems the oddest and worst out of them all. maybe the rest of the show was great, but seriously what were they thinking? i am one of those dudes who normally thinks everything they do is gold and sticks up for everything. this is craziness though. last kiss? weird .. what show was it again?

I have this one on CD. It sounds, well, an awful lot like it sounds now.
in 95 they opened with act of love

I was at this show! My first PJ show. For months leading up, we debated what the opener was going to be. I said Corduroy. Then, they come out and start Act of Love ... and it's like WTF. I had Mirror Ball, so it was like, "this song sounds familiar" but I couldn't quite place it. Not until the lyrics started.

It's kind of weird that the first PJ song I ever heard live wasn't 100 percent a PJ song.

On another note, I was at a show in 2003 that opened with Alive. That was weird as hell, too.

"Last Kiss" was the opener for the second Milwaukee show in '06. If memory serves, the next song played was "Save You", which was quite a switch.

I was at that San Diego show!! And we did go nuts......
    Conversations getting dull
There's a constant ringing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
    And I'm bored to tears.......

fair enough :) i just happen to be a big fan of the back up singer songs like cropduster, undone, army reserve.. i think the back up vocals are what make songs like those truly beautiful

I was at that show and opening with betterman turned out to be really cool. It got us all interacting and singing right out of the gate.

I think even the people that complain about Even Flow being played too much would love it if it opened a show! No one ever expects it!

I was at a show where they opened with Small Town....certainly not a usual opener... i agree with the the poster though, those are some weird ass openers...

I think Alive is a sweet opener.... betterman too... just gets the crowd into really quick... plus all the 10 club folks are blown away by the strange opener...

Was there for that. Ed said it was a request. Not quite the opener I was looking for, but the rest of that show kicked ass! I Got Id, Around the Bend, Sad, Smile. Was short, but damn sweet!

I was not sure how weird the openers I had seen were (since I have only been to 4 shows)...the stats on http://www.pjvault.com/stats.html were helpful.

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this
