I'm heading to the philly 1 show from Seattle, and have no idea what's close to the venue. Can anyone sugguest a close hotel and a decent spot to go for a few drinks before the show?

Your best bet is to stay in Center City (say, around 5th and Market) and take the subway to and from the show. It's the Market-Franford Line (septa.org) and takes about 20 minutes each way and drops you off right at the venue.

I'd say the same thing for pre-show drinks, that you'd have more fun in Center City, but there's also the Waterford Inn across the street from the Tower, where I'm guessing a lot of Vedder fans will congregate.

    Have fun!

anywhere in centre city (downtown) is close enough as you can take the septa to 69th street station and the tower theatre is right there... i know we were going to go somewhere like grey street cafe for drinks afterwards.

I'd also recommend Eulogy Belgian Tavern, which is right by the 2nd and Market subway stop.

Don't forget Triumph Brewery, right down the street from Eulogy. They brew their own beer right there and have a nice selection of beer and food.

Awesome! My first time to Philly as well, good info here, hoping to meet up with other fans and hang pre-show.

I've actually got all day to do some sight seeing and hopefully get a nice long late lunch in: bottle of vino and some fine dining. Recommendations along those lines?

Another question: Been thinking about just hanging by the backstage exit to try for an autograph after the show, from past tours that's usually an hour or two wait. How up a creek am I to find myself next to the Tower at 1:30 - 2:00 in the morning?

better find a cab quick... not necessarily a great neighborhood and the subway/El stop running at midnight (they run shuttle buses instead of the underground lines).

i think it is funny people are thinking these shows are in philly... the shows are in a shit hole that goes by the name of upper darby and the only thing in upper darby worth doing is the tower theater

people flying in from around the country are going to be disappointed if they stay anywhere near the venue...

there is only one place in upper darby to do it, and it is the bar right behind the venue...

upper darby is the hood folks

Who, exactly, are you talking to? All I see here is advice to stay/drink in center city.

There are no hotels in Upper Darby Township other than the Summit Inn, which is scary and potentially dangerous. Funny story ... http://tinyurl.com/c5f7qs ... There's really nowhere within walking distance of the Tower to have a drink, other than the Waterford Inn (anywhere else, the locals will scare you.)

If you're driving, there are decent restaurants/bars in Drexel Hill (which is part of Upper Darby) ... http://tinyurl.com/dy2bhn

We know it's crap here; we like to thank our local government. Oh, I gotta a million of 'em ... http://www.philly.com/philly/news/homep ... 75792.html

when I've come from out of town for shows at the Tower Theater I usually stay at a hotel near the airport. You are actually only 15-20 minutes away from the Tower. Hotwire may get you an inexpensive room in that area. You will spend much more if you stay center city.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
    ride"!

that's a good tip... there are some better known hotels in and around the airport rather than the dives on baltimore pike.

Uh, the Google Street View of the Waterford Inn for pre/post show drinks is not encouraging. Maybe just handbills on the door? Could be old Photo? But looks like applications for liq lisc type stuff ... anybody been recently -- place is still open?

ANYONE not familiar with the area...There is NOTHING near the venue to COMFORTABLY do. It is a "Diamond in the rough" venue. Get your food and drink prior to heading to the venue area. The venue itself is amazing, but the 'hood...is just that...
http://www.local44beerbar.com/ <<<<<<<<<<<THIS SPOT IS NOT CLOSE TO THE VENUE, but it is in the "West" direction from Center City...

Not as of yet, but I'm taking off that day. Maybe a bunch of us can grab lunch or something.
