I am finally going to go to Dublin, it was a long time promise I made to myself and the time has come to find out what is like in the land that once helped us to fight the American army...although we lost the war eventually

Any advise on where to go and what to avoid ;) I've already received some good tips from our dear Helen, but maybe if there are any Irish jammers over there who want to get to know a Mexican jammer and of course have some beers.

I am getting there on the 24th in the morning, should spend the day getting to know the city, later it's all about Guinness

Any one knows a good hotel? I checked the Maple and the Sheldon Park, around 70 euros per room is my limit.

Thanks!!
I feel very close to you all now; so close I could almost... loan you money. Really. it goes that deep.

Hmmm, don't know much about hotels here, sorry I can't help there. I usually work Friday nights, but if I'll see if I can get out for a pint anyway. How long are you staying for?

i too am working that weekend. I can help you with hotels though!

The better hotels are in the city centre. the Sheldon is VERY far out from the city (maybe 7 miles?), and is in an industrial area, so i wouldnt recommend it. ignore what the website says!

Try the "Jurys Inn" hotels. There are 3 of them, all in the city centre. The "Custom House" is the nicest one, and usually costs the same as your budget.

I second the accomodations in City Centre idea, or possibly Temple Bar. I had about 8 hours to kill when I first arrived in Dublin before my travel mates joined me, so I hopped on one of the city tour buses. It was fairly inexpensive, and you could hop on/off throughout the tour that covered 20-25 locations. I not only saw various sites I wanted to hit, but it also acclimated me quickly to how the city is set up and how to get around.

Yep, I'd definitely recommend the Jurys Inns... although I prefer the one in Christchurch location wise... Custom House is a BIT of a walk and Parnell St isn't in the best of areas.

Also there are places like Blooms Hotel

    http://www.blooms.ie/?gclid=CL_Rqe6g-JkCFQObFQod5x89FQ

IN Temple Bar and I stayed there before in a double room for about 50-60euro... they're advertising rooms from 30euro. The Parliament hotel is also well located and quite cheap.

Or Isaacs has those nights for 204 euro (JUST within your budget)

    http://www.isaacs.ie/isaacs-dublin-hote ... anguage=en

Also, look up the hostels... hostels in Dublin are usually well located and a great way of meeting people and having fun... and most importantly CHEAP :D

Here ya go: Ya can get a private room in a hostel from 20euro per night for one person... unless ya wanna go cheaper and try the dorms

I don't know any of them to recommend but read the reviews and they should be helpful. Although I've heard good things about Isaacs Hostel... and if you can play music, it says musicians stay for free :) on their website

Stugots... I LOVE the bus tour... very relaxing way to see the city and spend an hour or two (GREAT for hangovers  )

Lol, some of the comments are funny though... giving out that the free breakfast wasn't enough, even though they say exactly what you get... or that you've to press the shower every 11 seconds (he counted) or that it's too far from the city centre (It's IN the city centre and about 10 at the MOST mins walk from Temple Bar) or that there was noise at 2am (that's what time people come IN at) or that the pillow was too thin ( for fuck sake lol). A hostel's a hostel but, I have to say I love em... once you're not expecting 5 star service and you're laid back and just wanna meet people and have fun and have a bed to crash on they're great.

hehe, the transport is so bad i dont know how any tourists get around Dublin!! it must be a nightmare compared with every other city!!

Blooms is a good call, very central and the rooms are grand. Has a late residents bar too, so thats a nice perk, some of the other hotels close their bars early.

and its right beside some great pubs & music venues....The Bankers, Foggy Dew, Andrews Lane Theatre, Long Stand, ONeills, The Westmoreland, RiRa, Dame Lane

and tons of good cheap restaurants there too. Dammit, fuck the suburbs, i might be a tourist in town for the weekend!!! sounds like great fun, lol

Lol, that's what I did... it was our christmas party so I thought 'fuck it' and booked myself into the hotel for the night  it was great having no commute after work and just checking into the hotel and yep, I certainly hit the bar when the party was over... although don't remember much of it for some reason   . The room was HUGE and I got one with a balcony for no extra price (really big balcony too) so it's worth asking these things when ya book.

And eat in The Boxty House... my fave place in Dublin

:D absolutely... or there's usually quite a few. Once it's not rated like 20% or something I'm generally willing to give it a chance. On holiday you're really only looking for somewhere to crash and keep your stuff and a hostel fulfils all of that... and you get to make friends too :D and you've more money left for drink :) .

I think mookie stayed in the Abbey (something) one before on Bachelors walk (Perfect location again) and he loved it... but not sure. So what ya gonna go for?

Or I was gonna recommend something else but it's 40euro over your limit for the three nights

I stayed in this hotel before... Bray is a little seaside town outside of Dublin but it's only about 20 mins on the train to the city centre. This hotel when I stayed in it, you could see the sea from bed LYING down  and there was a HUGE balcony where I could go out to smoke and just stare at the sea... cos it's just across the road... it was wonderful and sooo relaxing... and there are some brilliant pubs and amazing restaurants along the promenade. So if you wanted to do something different rather than stay in the city centre and get to experience the best of both worlds with the city and the beach.

    http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern ... xg**.b05ab

Although I'm sure there are cheaper hotels and guesthouses along the same road overlooking the sea... cos there's plenty of them.

have a good weekend in Dublin where ever you end up?!

I will warn you that it aint cheap to go out drinkin in the city centre and as far as I know everywhere at home closes at 2:30am these days?!! Oh how I will miss Liverpool and it long opening hours!

The Foggy Dew, Eamon Dorans, Brogans (Beside Olympia music venue!), Hairy Lemon are all good spots.

You should probably look into Whelans or The Village on Camden Row/Wexford Street to end the night if you want an indie/rock finish. Or there is a club the Twisted Pepper which I haven't been to yet that's meant to be good and the POD venue also.

Temple Bar is not only the main drinking touristy part... there are some great shops and a few record stores... it's a nice place to hang around... some good vibes.

Don't forget to do Kilmainham Gaol if ya can... since you're a bit into history, it kinda covers most of it.

I think the best thing regarding pubs is to bring a list of some recommended... but you could venture into ALMOST any pub in Dublin and have a great time. If you're travelling alone, Temple Bar is the best cos you can get talking to everyone there... some other pubs may be a bit more cliquey... but you'll still find people to chat to in those pubs.

Just do a pub crawl and let us know which ones you liked the best  . Walk in and, if you don't like the atmosphere, don't waste your money and move on to the next one (chances are it will only be a couple of doors away anyway  ) and then when you find one that feels like home, stay there :D
