because people don't like be rejected and often feel if they are themselves they will be rejected. this is a trait in the younger generation because grade school and high school are for conformists. As you grow older I think most people realize that the teen bs of acting like others want you to is crap and unneeded. a lot of people don't like or trust themselves. it took me a long time to truly like myself but once I became happy with myself I stopped caring what others thought of me.

Wow. A quote from a ridiculously stupid, yet funny movie that I haven't heard for a long time.

Thanks for making me laugh my ass off!

My pleasure. I'm not sure how I ever remembered that, and I'm even less sure that that's a good thing, but fuck it eh?

I'm myself and don't pretend to be anything I'm not. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it's bad. Oh well.

It's so annoying. Not admitting to liking this or that, so they bash it. But deep down they know the truth.

Well, I'll tell you why I personally cannot be myself (at work). I am the only conservative in a workplace full of liberals. They hate Republicans with a passion and if I were to tell them that I didn't vote for Obama, I would honestly, most likely lose my job. These "open-minded" individuals would find a reason to fire me, but of course they would already hate me, so I probably would be glad to leave at that point.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

Ah, well work is a different story. Politics and religion are hot button issues and it's best not to discuss those topics your job. I don't think that's necessarily acting like someone your not.

People are scared of what others think. They try and take on a new persona to keep others happy. In turn people would be more happier if you are who you are.

I'd rather be hated for who I am than admired for who I am not.

What I can't stand is when someone who dislikes someone is friendly and fake to them.
If you don't like somebody make it clear through being cold, giving the cold shoulder, not talking to them etc

sometimes it's too easy to get caught up. i've been married for 6 years, and somewhere along the way I lost myself. now that we're things aren't going so well, I can find out where I went and bring myself back.

there are moments when I absolutely must get along with some people so sometimes I have to "push back" some of my delightful qualities.

but other than that, I'm very much being me. on message boards and real life.
