It's so annoying. Not admitting to liking this or that, so they bash it. But deep down they know the truth.

the times when I would not be myself are very few.

there are moments when I absolutely must get along with some people so sometimes I have to "push back" some of my delightful qualities.

but other than that, I'm very much being me. on message boards and real life.

Answer: because they don't like who they are. Or, they are afraid of what other people will think.

because people don't like be rejected and often feel if they are themselves they will be rejected. this is a trait in the younger generation because grade school and high school are for conformists. As you grow older I think most people realize that the teen bs of acting like others want you to is crap and unneeded. a lot of people don't like or trust themselves. it took me a long time to truly like myself but once I became happy with myself I stopped caring what others thought of me.

I'm myself and don't pretend to be anything I'm not. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it's bad. Oh well.

Well, I'll tell you why I personally cannot be myself (at work). I am the only conservative in a workplace full of liberals. They hate Republicans with a passion and if I were to tell them that I didn't vote for Obama, I would honestly, most likely lose my job. These "open-minded" individuals would find a reason to fire me, but of course they would already hate me, so I probably would be glad to leave at that point.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

Ah, well work is a different story. Politics and religion are hot button issues and it's best not to discuss those topics your job. I don't think that's necessarily acting like someone your not.
