Billboard - Pearl Jam Album, Film, Tour In The Works
Pearl Jam will play live dates in the U.S. later this year, including the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco Aug. 28-30, Billboard has confirmed. The band has also completed 14 songs for a new album and is working on a film with director Cameron Crowe, guitarist Mike McCready said in a radio interview late last month.
McCready told Seattle's "Ron & Don Show" that the band is about halfway finished with its next album, which is being recorded in California with producer Brendan O'Brien. McCready said the band is expecting to have the album out before the end of this year. As previously reported, the band will self-release the album, its ninth.
As for touring, the band is doing a "little thing in the States," and is looking to play South America in 2010, McCready said.
Pearl Jam is widely expected to be one of the headliners of this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas. The promoters, C3 Presents, declined to comment to Billboard about the lineup, but the Austin Chronicle is calling it "the worst-kept secret since Metallica’s SXSW showcase." Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys and Kings of Leon are also expected to be announced as headliners on April 28. Early bird passes for Austin City Limits are on sale at aclfestival.com.
Pearl Jam is also planning to tape an appearance on the Austin City Limits television show, producer Terry Lickona told a pbs.org questioner in March.
Pearl Jam have long been courted by C3 Presents for the Austin festival, especially after the promoters convinced the band to play Lollapalooza in 2007, its first large festival show in the U.S. since the mid-1990s. Pearl Jam played Bonnaroo in 2008.
"We're building up to our big 20th anniversary," McCready said. "We're trying to have a little campaign of building rereleases with new mixes and new outtakes up until that time. We're trying to do a movie with Cameron Crowe with all of our existing footage."

PLURALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
My teeth was grinding when reading about how C3 Presents courted Pearl Jam.... C3 Presents does not have my respect - I have seen how some of the things operated inside with some people I dealt with in 2007 and 2008 for Lolla and I am deeply disgusted.
But that is out of PJ's control, though...and I imagine they have seen the worst being in the music business over the years. *shrugs*
Anyway, thanks for the news - it's going to be a good year for the fans, it seems like!
Thanks for sharing!

Album's half done... I figured as much. I just want to say 'I told you so' to all the people that acted like I was being a dick for saying there was no way the band had the album done and that Ed touring was taking a break. Ed tours, the band makes another half assed attempt to wrap the album, plays a few shows, back to the album... 2010 it optimistic.
Oh Lord, he used plurals. New outtakes! Empty that vault you guys! I couldn't be happier about going broke!

Do you always have to complain everytime there is news from outside the 10club? Don't pay then.
hahaha Mike said that to me back in Boston last year, all I could think of was AAAAAAHHHHH
https://www.facebook.com/Bring.Pearl.Jam.To.Israel
I wouldn't if it wasn't for the fact that every time there is news, it comes from outside the 10c. Plus I just wanted to get my "I told you so" in.
Well if it wasn't for Ten Club, I wouldn't have found the post on the board with the link to the podcast that the articles quotes Mike from which aired last month.
So this whole article is basically old news for me because thanks to the Ten Club and the message board I heard the podcast and knew about the movie and tour last month.

No doubt. I would have been soooooo excited.
It won't be for everyone, but with technology and distribution models being what they are today there's no reason not to. If one blu-ray disc can hold 50 GB (approx) the band could virtually release an entire 72 show tour (audio only) on one disc in a completely uncompressed format. Nice!
Man I love this band!
Nice job, Solat13.
Yeah, I don't really get this article. The only source they are using is an interview Mike did like two weeks ago? I was hoping for something new here. I could understand if it was a slow news day and they threw this article up at the end of the day, but it is there top story and has been up since the morning. I hope they at least called the Ten Club and tried to get someone to comment on something or get a new quote.

That's cool, but is it too much for them to send an email digest of this sort of thing, giving a heads up on such things or news bullet points? Why do we all have to come here daily to read all of the 150 stickies on this place to get our information?
Half way done? Could this mean some sort of double album? 14 tracks is most likely good enough for a whole album (unless they are all sequels to "Pry, To" ... "Pry, Thre" "Pry, For" etc.
Can't wait for the complete tour annoucement and the upcoming movie and album!!!!!!!!
2009 is going to be an awesome year to be a PJ fan!!!
Just recording the songs doesn't mean the album is done. The band may have done the bulk of the recording but the mixing/mastering process can take up a fair chunk of time.

that's exactly the point (take back your "i told you so", soulsinging) - mixing, mastering, tracking, artwork, etc. can take several months, hence the entire process of releasing the new album was halfway done, according to Mike, a month ago so we're still on schedule for an '09 release,...

I would imagine that mixing and mastering wouldn't account for 50% of an album especially for a band like Pearl Jam. They're really not known for lots of crazy studio effects and post production, but ya never know. All I know is that I'm hoping for lots of songs to come out of these sessions.
I think I remember hearing that they recorded almost another album's worth of material for Avocado but we never saw any of those tracks. Maybe they'll release an EP of leftover tracks like Radiohead did when they put out In Rainbows. Of course all of this is just a wishful enthusiast fantasizing.
