West Palm and Tampa Info

Could some of you locals give us some info on hotels, transportation, ect?
Any cheap deals?

in tampa, there are 4 hotels w/in walking distance from the forum (westin of harbour island, marriott, embassy suites, hyatt regency). not sure prices, but i'm assuming that they're not super cheap. down in ybor city, which is just a short trolley ride away, there is a hilton garden inn (on palm ave.) and a howard johnson (on 8th ave). probably way less expensive and they're still really close.

As for transportation in WPB: there is a bus that goes to the venue. Unfortunately it doesn't run late enough to take it back after the show. I think you're gonna need to rent a car. That's what we're doing.

We got the Marriott West Palm Beach for an $80 bid using priceline. I think the rack rate was double that.

For Tampa we're staying at the Marriott Waterside.

If you're coming to Tampa and you'll have a car, do yourself a favor and stay at the beach. It's 45 minutes from the venue and assuming you have a designated driver there is no better way to wake up after a PJ show than to walk across our white sand and jump in the Gulf.

June is off-season so you can get some good rates. St. Pete Beach is easiest to get to, but Clearwater Beach is nice too.

Friends of mine own the Bon Aire Resort on St. Pete Beach and it's a nice mid-level motel with a nice pool and beach.

I will be renting a car, but if its possible to walk to the shows i would prefer that.

There aren't any hotels that I'm aware of that are walking distance to Cruzan Amphitheatre. Marriott Waterside is definitely within walking distance. There may be a couple others that are less than half a mile from the Forum.

can someone advise on the drive from wpb to miami beach? i mapped it out and it estimates 1 hour and 10 minutes, is that accurate ?? is it a good drive for the way back at night?

Cruzan Amphitheatre used to be part of the everglades

Its way out west in the middle of nowhere. It used to have 1 road in/out. Maybe they improved it

The show falls on a wed i believe, so you have to get there early to beat rushhour traffic. fuk

i will be sick the 12th, and will not be goin to work. Oh, i will also be leavin early cause i dont feel too good......

Bruce B. Downs is on the northern edge of Tampa.

The Forum is several miles to the south in downtown.

yes, it's a little over an hour - except if you're driving back there after the show, it can take quite awhile longer due to traffic getting out of the venue.

where are you staying?

Just a bit more than 3 hours depending on traffic. All you have to do is take Highway 60 to the Florida Turnpike. You will get off the highway about 5 miles from the Amphitheatre.

I think they'll be going the other way. Turnpike to 60.

Allow plenty of time for Hwy 60 around Tampa. It's busy no matter when I'm on it.

4 hours to be safe.

Definitely true. Most of that drive is just nothing, but once you get into Hillsborough county its gonna slow down a lot.

I made that drive last summer. It is actually really wide open and peaceful. Lots of prairies and cow pastures and wide open spaces in south central Florida.

Then you arrive in Brandon (East Tampa) and you are rudely reintroduced to shopping malls, cars, traffic, noise and pollution.

Brandon can be pure evil. Bust most of that drive is indeed really nice.

My g-parents stay there for 3 months during the winter every year. inexpensive, on the beach, and very chill. Love it. 2 pools, shuffleboard, and the orange marmalade is to die for.

for wpb i reserve on studio 6 hotel near clear lake, the price is $73 plus tax, but im afraid about negative critics i read on trip advisor, but my budget cant let me expensive prices, have you reference about that place?.

im coming from peru, for doing a trip to miami-orlando-wpb, please tell me if its easiest orlando-wpb-orlando or miami-wpb-miami?

other doubt: will call opens at what hour?

and studio 6 to cruzan, theres buses or trains, walking is ok?

For an $80 bid on priceline I got the Marriott West Palm Beach. It's a 3 star hotel. Looks very nice. I might have room for you in our rental car if you need a ride to and from the show.

thanks for the info! only thing im missing is a place to stay and Clearwater is where i have stayed before and was thinking about doing again

Just be sure to add extra time if you leave for the show around rush hour. Traffic on Gulf to Bay can be a bear.

also if people are looking for airline flights i went thru southwest airlines and got two non-stop roundtrip from St. Louis to Tampa for 442.00, cheaper than i could get on Orbitz and other places

cool thanks, we plan on staying somewhere in the miami beach area and renting a car for the drive up and back, any other advise about driving will help? Any traffic to be aware of leaving Miami??

After you get out of the parking lot at WPB it should take about an hour & 1/2. plenty of time to hit the nite life in south beach which doesn't start hopping till after midnight.
