Sad seems to be having that effect on me lately... the guitar riff into the drums pounding like my heart dropping into my chest.

  • I was out walking today and Indifference came on my ipod. I had the biggest smile on my face, I must have looked like an idiot.
  • Nothing as it Seems does it to me....

Especially the last line "the little that you see, it's home"
When this just feels like spinning plates.
  • Off He Goes
    Dead Man

I don't know if that qualifies as a good answer for the original post... I'm sure it's heresy, but I'm going to add a non-PJ song to the list, because I think that the spirit of this thread demands that I share another meaningful piece of music, even if it isn't necessarily sung by Ed & Co.

    Ready...

I challenge any father (esp. of a little girl) on this board to listen closely to Ben Folds singing "Gracie" and NOT shed a tear.
give that song to my dad and i bet he'll just shrug. he's evil like that. (sorry got a little angry there for a second. one of the many things me and ed have in common  ) thanks for the input though! :)

  • Immortality just does something for me... I don't entirely get why... reminds me of my nephew a little, but it's just a beautiful song

Inside Job- I just love that song... I remember the first time I heard it I was driving back from my sister's, on the highway at 75mph or so, I started to cry and somehow convinced myself that I needed to look at the lyrics... while I was on the highway at 75mph... nothing bad happened, though

Rearviewmirror- I had to make the decision to call the police on my father this summer, because he's doing something really reprehensible and people are going to get hurt, and it was a hard and risky decision to make, and as I was still mulling over exactly what I was going to do and how and when I was going to do it, I'd either hear this song in my dreams, or wake up and my head would be full of it. It kept reminding me about how someone can triumph over horrible people doing horrible things to them.

Off he goes- again, I've always loved this one, it's so beautiful, it's a lot like my relationship with my sister at the moment.

i like this post. i like all these posts. fucking dads, why do they have to screw shit up  you know, he ruined black for me by writing my favorite part in an "apology" note, the part that goes "i know someday you'll have a beautiful life" etc. sorry again, i'm very angry at the moment.

  • Nothing As It Seems for has a profound impact on me. I feel the lyrics in many ways relate to certain aspects of my life.

Also the It's Ok tag from touring band 2000, amazing.

  • Hard To Imagine, I don't listen to it very often any more. Ironically it was the first song to play in my car after my wife and I left the hospital after one of THE worst days of our lives. When ever I hear that song, every second of that day flashes through my head. I usually listen to it every March 11th but other than that day, I usually stay away from it. I heard them play it live one time and it was a very emotional moment for me. Its still hard to imagine.

"Son, she said, have a got a little story for you...." I vividly remember the first time I heard that song. It rocked my freaking socks off (and it still does).

I think the song that always gets me like this is Release, though.
