This was the song for me and my husband for many years b/c I loved him dearly, but I had to let him spread his wings and fly. He had to let me go too. (We were only dating/friends at the time). It is now 15 years later, and we are finally married. My "black" came back to me.

I don't know if that qualifies as a good answer for the original post... I'm sure it's heresy, but I'm going to add a non-PJ song to the list, because I think that the spirit of this thread demands that I share another meaningful piece of music, even if it isn't necessarily sung by Ed & Co.
Ready...
I challenge any father (esp. of a little girl) on this board to listen closely to Ben Folds singing "Gracie" and NOT shed a tear.
Cincinnati, Columbus 2000
Baltimore 2013
Inside Job- I just love that song... I remember the first time I heard it I was driving back from my sister's, on the highway at 75mph or so, I started to cry and somehow convinced myself that I needed to look at the lyrics... while I was on the highway at 75mph... nothing bad happened, though
Rearviewmirror- I had to make the decision to call the police on my father this summer, because he's doing something really reprehensible and people are going to get hurt, and it was a hard and risky decision to make, and as I was still mulling over exactly what I was going to do and how and when I was going to do it, I'd either hear this song in my dreams, or wake up and my head would be full of it. It kept reminding me about how someone can triumph over horrible people doing horrible things to them.
Off he goes- again, I've always loved this one, it's so beautiful, it's a lot like my relationship with my sister at the moment.
